If you want an elegant experience that rivals the Orient Express and the olden days of luxury trains, this is it. Top notch, friendly, formal service. Terrific meals, comfy, beautiful cabins with surprisingly spacious and well appointed bathrooms--this is it. A once in a lifetime trip. We went from Capetown to Pretoria. Word of warning-don't waste your time on the... More

Our experience began traveling from Pretoria to Cape Town. We were traveling with a group of 25 and had been a week in the bush and then several nights in Joburg at the Saxon. The staff was very attentive, but service was made more complicated because the phones in the rooms did not work. The accommodations were about what we... More

My husband and I took the Blue Train from Pretoria for Cape Town in Feb 2012. It was totally amazing. The whole experience was like stepping back in time, but with today's five star service. We began with a delicious brunch in the dining car, the food blow us away and was probably some of the best we had during... More

Yes, I did enjoy the comfort of the train, but for the price we paid, one would expect flawless (or very near to it).... As mentioned by a previous passenger (2 weeks prior to my trip...indication they are slow at correcting)...the camera at the end of the train to view the scenery did not work....the phone to contact the butler... From arriving at the Blue Train Lounge in Cape Town to leaving the train in Pretoria this trip was fabulous. We were served champagne and nibbles in the lounge prior to being escorted to our suite by our butler. The train manager had already introduced himself to everyone individually. The train itself is magnificent. The quality of the fixtures and... More

We have been to South Africa several times and wanted a different way to travel from Cape Town to Johannesburg , how we wish we had flown. The Blue Train was very expensive, but it was a present for my wife 's birthday and it is described as a 5 star luxury Hotel on wheels. We were 2 hours late... More

We actually made the trip in November 2010 just as one couple. It was a great disappointment, not for the service, which was excellent, or the food, wnich was very good, but the sleeping comfort (or lack of it as we rattled and bumped through the night) and most of all the "stunning scenery" (or lack of it as we... We went on the Blue Train for our honeymoon and it was absolutely fantastic. I find trains quite romantic anyway, but this really was the cream of the crop! The service was amazing, nothing was too much trouble and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We particularly enjoyed a late night at the bar with a wonderful barman (Enoch)... More
