What a Pleasure to drive only a short distance and find yourself in the bush miles from Civilisation. The commercialized world of Sun City, with all it's glitz and glamour even though just a heartbeat away may as well be continents apart from this Beautiful sanctuary in the wild. We have had the pleasure of visiting Pilanesberg Game Reserve before, but... More

Best experience - just wear warm clothes as it can be so cold in the mornings! Take a good camera as iPhone does not do it justice

The roads are not over-populated with tourist groups. Good game sightings and the animals all look healthy.

The reserve is great for visiting from Johannesburg, it is much closer than Kruger and malaria precautions are not required. There are several lodges inside the reserve and sun city nearby (most tour operators will sell you combined tour). We took an option of evening game drive with the park ranger (which is more expensive). Reflecting back it was probably... More

My husband and I have just returned from a week spent at our timeshare at the Bakgatla Resort in the Pilanesberg. It was wonderful. Bakgatla is well maintained and comfortable and we had good sightings in the game reserve. The roads in the Pilanesberg are being improved. We love the fact that it's so close to Johannesburg and malaria free

Spent a day here with personal guide doing a morning self-drive, lunch, and park guided afternoon drive. Animals are very plentiful around water here located at the front of the park. It was some easy, volume spotting compared to other drives I took in other areas later. The park was serene. I spotted a lot of species. Herds were more... More

I was in South Africa for business and had one additional day of time off. One day in Pilanesberg Game Reserve (with Catz tours) was a day well spent. I was picked up at my hotel in Johannesburg and dropped off again in the evening. This gave us a comfortable 4-5 hours of time in the reserve. The park is... More

Evening drives were fruitful - we viewed lion feeding, elephants, wild cat, owl and many more. Our day drives were equally good as we saw rhino, a huge herd of elephants, the most beautiful baby elephants, kudu, buck, springbok, jakkal etc. Please take along a warm jacket with you at night as it tends to get quite cold.

We stayed at Golden Leopard Resort over Eastera. A small family friendly resort very comfortable and clean for the price paid. The game reserve is set in beautiful countryside within the volcano and very good for viewing the animals, although we may have had beginners luck. It is a small reserve ideal for young children. After 2 1/2 hours of... More
