As recommended we took a smaller boat trip (have forgotten the name of our guide, who gave us a lot of information and was simply great) to the estuary and saw whole groups of hippos in the water plus more animals at the time of late afternoon/ sunset. It was a great experience!

We were fortunate to be on a boatbwith a small number of people. That give the opportunity to really observe the hippo's and the nature around them in the estuary. Very impressive and nice pictures possiblze.

We were very impressed with all that the St. Lucia estuary had to offer. The boardwalk from the estuary to the beach is lovely and you can see a lot of interesting wildlife. From colourful birds to red duiker to crocs and hippos and crabs, it is all right there in front of you. We then booked a Hippo Tour... More

This is our local spot when we go to St Lucia. A day on the jetty, just me and hubby is always fun. Listening to the hippo's, spotting the occasional croc right by the jetty, always exciting!

Recently returned from South Africa and visited St Lucia as we travelled from Joburg to Durban. Truly amazing and beautiful place where Hippos, one of Africas most dangerous animals, roamed freely around the town at night. But once you showed them respect and stayed a safe distance from them you were relatively safe. Highly recommend a visit.

An interesting 2 hour cruise to see the area and the hippos and crocs. Very much a tourist area for foreigners so if you are South African expect to be treated like a foreigner.

This national park -part of the Kwazulu-Natal nationalparks (book with them for Ezemvelo which is St Lucia) - is log cabins with full bathrooms, linen, towel, fridges, self catering, water and electricity and huge verandahs. One hour North of St Lucia up through the park itself. Samango monkeys come by, as do vervets and bush buck. The park has buffalo... More

Sea, Forest, Wetland and Lake; all in one conservation package for the true nature lover!! St Lucia is the last frontier of a natural eco-system with all the requirements for a true Heritage Site, and that is still what it is...Little Eden in our South Africa.
