This national park -part of the Kwazulu-Natal nationalparks (book with them for Ezemvelo which is St Lucia) - is log cabins with full bathrooms, linen, towel, fridges, self catering, water and electricity and huge verandahs. One hour North of St Lucia up through the park itself. Samango monkeys come by, as do vervets and bush buck. The park has buffalo... More

Sea, Forest, Wetland and Lake; all in one conservation package for the true nature lover!! St Lucia is the last frontier of a natural eco-system with all the requirements for a true Heritage Site, and that is still what it is...Little Eden in our South Africa. Next to the ski boat club is a 300m boadwalk to the estuary and the beach. Definately put this on your list of things to do. We saw crocodiles and hippo there. The beach is breathtaking. There are ablutions but we didnt use them so not sure of the cleanliness but all the other department facilities in St Lucia are... More

St Lucia is a beautiful town that is small yet has a lot to offer, from Boating to fishing to trails, beaches, Hippos and various other attractions. Shops for fresh fruit n veggies, bread and milk to purchasing fish that comes off the jetty. amazing destination for a family or young couples or even retired couples, so much to offer.............

OK, I should have spent more time on intelligence. All these miles - and stopped at the barrier! Trying to get a lift in somebody's car (with a honey moon couple for instance...) isn't really what I had been looking for, so I explored Richard's Bay. Which wasn't so bad after all!

Took boat cruises on three different occasions and every time it was as if it was the first time. Really recommend anyone to do this. Saw lots of hippos and crocs. Birding is top notch. The captain get close enough for great pictures. Best time will be late afternoon and take a two hour cruise with Heritage Tours & Safaris.

We did a cruise with Thompsons, on the other side of the bridge when you leave the town. We had a pleasant experience on this cheap (150R) river cruise. We took the 16:00 cruise, probably the best to see hippos moving around while the sun is setting. We saw a lot of hippos, a few crocodiles, and even an encounter... More

We toured the estuary by boat. It was late afternoon, around 4:00 and as the hippo are nocturnal, we mostly saw them grouped in the water sleeping. Every once in awhile, we would be able to get a Kodak moment of one opening its mouth. Saw a few crocodile as well. The guides were very good at spotting them; they... More

Very informative. Guide very knowledgeable. certainly worth a visit if you are interested in nature because it is not only the hippos and crocs that are there but the bird life is great. you even stand a chance in spotting a leopard on the banks of the estuary .

Really fun time on the river. We got to see several hippo groups including some showing some dramatic aggressive behavior towards each other. The guides were great at narrating and finding the right spots. Not sure how they can spot the crocs so easily but it is most impressive.
