Easy drive via directions from hotel staff and GPS. Beautiful long stretch of beach that is reminiscent of the state of Oregon coastline. Quick trip into the surf side community for market shopping (highly recommended) and a beverage before our 1.5 hr return drive to our lodge. Did not do the estuary tour - lots of crocs and hippos are... More

If you want to see hippos & more hippos, take time for a boat trip on the St. Lucia Estuary. Besides rafts of hippos, there is wonderful bird life and crocodiles on the the estuary. A beautiful boat ride on a sunny day.

We weren't sure what to expect in the estuary but certainly saw a variety of wildlife, especially the hippos, and absolutely gorgeous beaches. Well worth the long drive

We travelled on the Santa Lucia boat booked through Thompson. The guide was called Laurie and she really brought the trip to hide pointing out the wild life and interesting facts about the area. She was very enthusiastic and amusing - even our teenage son enjoyed it! The sunset was fabulous and we enjoyed sundowners watching it purchased at the... More

What a nice place to relax and see hippos, crocs and birds. We did a boat cruise on the estuary and were lucky to see lots of hippos (including baby ones playing), crocodiles and a Goliath Heron very close (what a magnificent bird!)

We were able to take a boat ride down the estuary in late afternoon. This was a great time to spot the hippos who seemed to be waking up and getting ready to leave the water for night time wanders. We saw some beautiful birds too and one or two lazy crocs catching the last rays of sun.

Could have spent an entire day exploring this area. Not to be missed. Loved seeing hippos in the pond, zebras, and other wildlife.

We saw countless hippo, fish eagle, and many other birds. We even saw a croc sunning himself on the beach!
