Peace in the wild wilderness with sea and hills all around… highly recommend a visit! Self-drive trip is easy with good maps available at the local tourist office. Buy delicious avo's and granadillas from the locals.

Recommend a river cruise, chose one of the smaller boats like Heritage tours as you get a more personal tour from the guide. You will see Crocs, Hippos, Eagles etc.

It was 3 pm tour. Suppose to be 2 h, was 1h 20 min. We saw 1 crocodile and 4 hippos under the water, cruising about 1 mile for an hour. Waste of time and very disappointing. It was part of the Gate 1 tour. May be another tour operator could do a better job. Check the route.

Where else do hippos wander into the garden of your hotel to snack on the greenery? Where else does the Nile croc socialize with the fish eagle? Why St. Lucia of course!

A little disappointing but not the best time of the year to visit. Was a little too cool for the hippo and they were huddled together on the banks of the estuary. But still saw plenty of hippos, alligators and a beautiful bull water buck. Beautiful time of year for a boat ride for sure.

Nothing like a slow cruise up the lake. With the very informative guides we were able to see many birds, and my favourite Fish eagle. Many hippos were spotted at close range it was fantastic. We saw 2 crocodiles on the bank. This trip on the boat is really worth it.

I really enjoyed visiting this area, I wish that I had more time up my sleeves to stay longer but that's life. I would love to come back again someday.

We have stayed many times in this area and have never been disappointed. The boat cruise on the estuary is certainly not to be missed. We have on one occasion each use a company other than Advantage for these cruises; the one was appalling & the other OK but Advantage wins the day by a country mile. The Skippers are... More

Unbelievable number of hippos. there are also lots of crocodiles, birds other fauna to look at. Best to take the 1st ride of the day or the last one since the weather is cooler.

We spent a couple nights camping at Sugar Loaf in St. Lucia Estuary. The cost was 90 Rand per person per night. The campsite was situated on the water, there were loads of signs saying beware of hippos. There were monkeys in the camp but they didn’t bother us. The campsites came with electricity and the ablution blocks were very... More
