The afternoon spent at Chimp Eden this visit was one of the highlights of my stay in Nelspruit. The centre staff were very knowledgeable and provided an extensive commentary as we toured the camps. Some of the background to the chimpanzees now living out their days in peace can be found in other reviews. The extent of the cruelty suffered... More

Being a die hard animal lover and involved in animal rescue for many years, visiting Chimp Eden was a bitter sweet experience, but one I would not have missed for the world. I have always been in awe of Jane Goodall, but this was my first real life encounter with her life's work. Chimp Eden is one of 3 chimp... More

This is a great educational experience if you have not had a chance to visit Uganda, Rwanda or the like. A sad remembrance of man's cruelty and nature's beauty. Can be a bit adventurous... they do pick up and throw stones so keep your walk quick and little ones covered. Don't aggrivate or tease - show respect to these emotional... More

Reviewing this attraction is not easy. A visit to Chimp Eden evoked numerous emotions. The Chimps were correctly, the main attraction. Their enclosures were large and natural. We were not permitted into them, and rightly so. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about chimps in general and about each of these individual chimps. She made the tour interesting and informative, whilst... More

A place definitely worth a visit. Very informative visit with the guide having a remarkable knowledge of these highly intelligent primates, all rescued from situations where people are out to make financial benefit from them. One of only 3 sanctuaries in Africa and the only one in South Africa, it is a unique experience.

Great tour guide and stories regarding the rescue animals in their care as well as conservationist efforts to eradicate further harm to the animals left in the jungles and world

After watching the show Chimp Eden years ago, and then watching it in reruns on Animal Planet, it was so exciting to see them in person! Eugene and the staff have done so much to rescue these chimps from terrible situations. It was great hearing the stories of their rescues, It's not possible for them to live in the wild... More

The first time we went from Komatipoort to Nelspruit to visit Chimp Eden it started raining on the way to Nelspruit. Not much but when we arrived in the morning we were told that as a result the sanctuary stayed closed. But would be open when it would be dry. We came back later that afternoon, the weather had changed... More
