Once, the Sani Pass was a rough mule trail descending the Eastern Highlands of old Basutoland into Natal. Tough drovers brought wool and mohair down the Pass on donkeys and mules to be exchanged for blankets, clothing and maize meal, the essentials for life in a remote, impoverished country. And a young man had a dream of operating a motor vehicle service up this fantastic Pass, using the 4-wheel drive vehicles he had seen on service in World War II. His name was David Alexander and he founded this Company in 1955. It has operated on the Sani Pass ever since.

At the moment we arrived in Underberg we arrived to a closed office. A quick phone call and we were able to arrange a tour for the day after. Our guide drove us up the Sani Pass and from there he would arrange a guide for us to make a 4 hour hike. This was not part of what they... More

We took a day tour to Lesotho. The driver was also the guide. He was a nice guy. Short explanations. Good driver. The great View made the tour so nice. It was an easy and pleasant tour. We were only 5 people so the tour became familiarly to all of us.

We booked with Sani Pass Tours for the Mokhotlong day tour. We were collected in promptly in a well maintained 4x4 (it is a rough drive so you want a car guaranteed to get you there and back!) by a knowledgeable and friendly guide. We were given many opportunities to stop and take stunning pictures throughout the trip up Sani... More

We recently embarked on the journey up to Lesotho with the sani pass tour guys. They had a specially done up Toyota which n itself was pretty epic, especially when they hiked open the roof so we could stand and take in the amazing view whilst driving up. It really feels like you are climbing right into the clouds. It's also... More

I must say we were extremely disappointed at the weekend with the booking of the above tour. We flew up to Durban, stayed in the area and met as arranged on Saturday morning at the tour office. All looked good, lots of activity, vehicles until we were to depart. They are using Toyota vehicles not sure which model but it... More

Frozen waterfalls and freshly baked, piping hot pot bread at 2 874m made the day's outing with a very skilful driver and knowledgable tour guide, Martin of Sani Pass Tours, an unforgettable excursion. Be prepared for 4 seasons in one day. Our trip up the mountain was cold, misty and patches of light drizzle. A camera is a must to... More

Thank you to David, our excellent guide and driver, who made the trip up the majestic Sani Pass both memorable and entertaining. David was great providing a wealth of information without making you feel there was a test coming later. He kept our kids engaged and entertained and his calm assured manner behind the wheel allowed everyone to enjoy the... More

We were lucky to be the only couple on the tour that day so we had the guide and vehicle to ourselves. Wilson our guide was really good at spotting wildlife and we had plenty of stops to take photos of the scenery and animals/birds. Most of the time was spent travelling up the Sani Pass rather than in Lesotho... More

My husband wanted to take a trip up Sani Pass so we made a point of working it into this trip. The town of Underberg is a quaint and friendly place and our host at Cedar Gardens Bed and Breakfast (see separate review) helped us with a tour reservation for the next day. Our guide and driver, Martin, picked us... More
