I just spent few days in Umhlanga rocks as I had to do business in Durban area. This town is just crazy in the evening; you can find lots of restaurants and bars. I spent almost a week there and never got annoyed. You can although enjoy a nice promenade along the beach. In one word don’t miss it…

I live in Umhlanga Rocks and it definitely rocks! It has a great coast line with beautiful beaches, great for swimming, surfing and fishing. It has an awesome safe promenade where people run, walk and take their dogs for a walk. There are a host of very good restaurants and it is near Gateway shopping centre and Durban. Umhlanga is... It is very built up and whilst a fairly up market suburb of Durban it did feel safe and had a good selection of shops and places to eat . The nature reserve nearby going to th Umlanga river was worth the walk

Did not like the high rise developments - spoilt the seafront. A good walk along the promenade with the trail at end of it is good for a walk.

Liked Beach, restaurants, accessibility to/from airport. Disliked, congestion, English tourists in open-toed sandals and socks.

I hadn't visited Umhlanga Rocks for a while and was thrilled with the great new restaurants. Vovo Telo is one of my Johannesburg favourites and I was happy to find it in Umhlanga. There are a number of new offerings. The vibe in Umhlanga is laid back but not seedy. Well patrolled beach with life guards, lovely walks to the... More

Unlike Durban, this is a piece of paradise, it is run by a private party UIP and this little town is spotless! It is safe and offers great clean beaches, excellent restaurants and pubs and a fantastic hotel! The Oyster Box! If you have to stay on this coast line! this is the only area to stay! it is safe... There are many beautiful places to see and to visit but very few that can compare with the level of service that one encounter at this hotel-- it is quite simply brilliant. We can not wait to return and as such wish to thank all involved with this hotel for their hard work and personal service rendered to guests. A... More
