A beautiful place. Safe, with beach, lighthouse, restaurants, hotels and shops. Lovely relaxed area. Pity we chose a very wet couple of days to spend here, but in spite of the thunderstorms, wind and rain, we could see that it is a lovely spot.

Many great things to do in an area that is growing by the day. Close to Durban with easy access to the airport and the North Coast, it is the perfect place to start any journey in. Or even to base yourself. Gateway ticks most boxes and access is easy.

The benefit of staying along the beach front is the access to the village and multiple restaurant options. Although the beach stretches far and some of the apartments may require you to have a car to get in and out of the village.

Umhlanga Rocks beach is just the best to chill, catch a tan and swim in the warm Indian ocean on a summer's day. There is plenty of cafes and restaurants all around as well as spa's and market stalls in some areas. Definitely worth a visit if you want a slice of relaxation.

A lovely seaside town which has grown hugely in the past few years and is always enjoyable - when the weather is good. This was our second visit this year and we will keep going back. Most of the restaurants are great and good value. Plenty of holiday accommodation. There was a time when building restrictions were not in place... More

uMhlanga is today what the Durban beachfront used to be like 30 years ago. It is clean, safe to walk around, offers plenty of dining options and has a world-class promenade to run or walk along in the mornings/evenings. All the top hotel groups are represented here, from the Oyster Box Hotel (5*) to the family resorts like UMhlanga Sands... More

Umhlanga Rock is a beach community with lots of foreigners. Walking there is save and you will find everything in walking distance. Along the beach is a nice promenade with a light house and a pier. The sea can be little rough, for bathing there are better places closer to the Durban port.

We enjoy Umhlanga year on year when it gets cold and wet mid winter in the winelands. It's family friendly and provides a save environment with lots to do.

We have been enjoying Umhlanga for probably 30 years. The village atmosphere, families and retires, great shopping centres, perfect beach holiday
