Spent a very pleasant few hours there. We were taken around by an informative guide who knew his stuff. Very tranquil settings and certainly worth a visit. Had the opportunity to physically interact with nature, had butterflies sitting on us, and fed the monkeys.

A very small but lovely and entertaining facility. The shop has beautiful items for sale. I did not sit through the videos but they are available.

In an industrial part of Pietermaritzburg is the unexpected: a butterfly house with exotic butterflies and plants and with helpful and informative people. It is set in a garden with lots of footpaths meandering through plants that attract butterflies. Inside the main building is a lovely little coffee shop with simple but good food and wonderfully fresh salads and the... More

I paid a return visit to Butterflies For Africa last Friday, the first time being at least 2 - 3 years ago. I must say that the number of butterflies that were present this time around was rather disappointing. But maybe it is because of the time of the year? Otherwise the place is still well maintained, and at R38... More

Such a joy watching all the different types of butterflies flitting here and there and feeding at the feeding stations. So delicate and so unique. Its a truly beautiful encounter. Loved walking through the gardens outside as well.

Butterflies make the world a more beautiful place and Butterflies for Africa is just magical. When it comes to the food, few things beat the pancakes filled with creamed spinach :) yummy yum yum!

I have been threatening for years to visit BFA and I think that resulted in me expecting so much more than the relatively few butterflies on display. The quails, doves and fish in the enclosure blended nicely with the butterflies but the same cannot be said about the monkeys. The facilities are very nice and seeing that it is just... More

I like butterfly gardens and this one is well run. However most of their butterflies are imported from South America rather than being South African or even African. They have a group of lemurs that is very interesting however and they were the high point of our visit.

Nice facilities;quite easy to find;lovely butterflies but not enough variety-i expected more. Not sure why they have monkeys there?Better use could be made of the outside garden.
