As you can imagine this is by no means the conventional stance of a tour operator, but Street Scene is not your conventional tour operator. They are constantly exploring Durban and its surrounds, ever on the lookout for nuggets of history and the many hidden gems the province has to offer.Durban and its surrounding areas are filled with a rich tapestry of history which is largely unknown not only to tourists, but also its residents. After all, Mahatma Gandhi made Durban his home for many years, and it was just outside Durban that Nelson Mandela cast his vote in the 1994 elections that forever changed South Africa. The great King Shaka Zulu also spent much time on the very land upon which Durbanites now call home. From the city's architecture to its people, Street Scene aims to engulf its guests in all that is Durban. They started out with their focus on locals but soon realized that when you create a set of tours that residents of the city love, you are guaranteed to have tours that visitors to the city will find riveting and unique. There is nothing conventional about Street Scene Tours, and that's just the way we like it. « less

We arranged a see of for a friend going back to states, arranged a 22 seater bus and packed it 19 of us and I can tell you no one got off that bus unhappy or unimpressed. It really was an awesome time. Sthembiso the tour guide kept the good vibes going and knowledge flowing, the stop's were all awesome... More

We have an exchange student from England staying with us and wanted him to see a bit more of Durban and had heard good things about Street Scene. Richard in the office was really helpful and we already had a good impression of the company before even embarking on our trip on Sunday 16 February. Thabo was our guide and... More

We were able to schedule 3 trips with Street Scene and had the wonderful Stembiso to take us around. Our first tour was the city scene tour. Stembiso took us around Durban, we took in the new sights, sounds, smells, experiences. We had our bunny chow lunch and learned much about the city of Durban. The second tour was the shark... More

Best thing to do with friends, lots of laughter, dancing and the occasional rapping with the locals! Delicious Shisanyama and drinks. Thank you for making this happen, it really was an awesome experience.

We were taken on a city tour with Sthembiso. He was obviously passionate about his job and the city, explaining its history in detail. I don't know much about Durban, so it was a really good way of finding out more. The markets were interesting, too. Definitely recommended.

We were recently in Cape Town and Durban and did Street Scene tours in both cities. The beer tour in CT was amazing and so informative. A great guide in Massimo. In Durban sThambiso was our guide for both the Valley Scene and Township Tour. His passion, knowledge, perspective and hospitality were outstanding and so appreciated. We had our 7... More

Three of us took a Shebeen tour while in Durban and had an excellent time, it was fun and informative (a bit political, but you could tell the guide was VERY passionate about S.Africa!). we had a good lunch at a local tavern and witnessed our guide deal very well with other more 'difficult' guests on the tour :) overall... For our year end function this year we decided on a Shebeen Tour in and around Kwa-mashu and Inanda. Street Scene's tour is absolutely fantastic and a whole heap of fun. They kept us entertained, thoroughly refreshed and feed for the afternoon. No matter is you are just visiting KZN or live here, this is definitely something you should check... More

Exceeding expectations sounds like marketing blurb - they did it! We (couple) booked Richard (who brought Jonas with him) for a private 4 hour tour through Durban, based on the positive reviews and reputation streetscene had. A bit of e-mail ahead and a superbe hotel recommendation from them and than we were due to meet at 2 p.m. A quick... More
