Ithala Game Reserve is not on the, "big", reserve map and does not accommodate Lion but for me is one of the best reserves to which I have been. The variety of, "biospheres", from tropical to almost alpine is amazing and many varieties of game abound, including leopard which I managed to photograph. The chalets at Ntshondwe Camp are comfortably... More

We spent to very pleasant nights here in a chalet, which was very clean, well maintained and with good amenities. Compared to other Game Reserves managed by KwaZulu Natal, Ithala is the stand out star. Ithala's management have been able to secure funds and apply it with care ensuring that visitors will not be disappointed. We had breakfast in the... More

Ithala offers beautiful varied scenery, good game viewing and interesting geological formations. An overnight stay is recommended and there is a variety of accommodation options available inside the reserve, ie from basic camping to a luxury lodge. Most of the reserve can be visited with a normal sedan car. On some routes, however, high ground clearance is recommended. Caravans are... More

Real bush experience and off the normal routes. There are plenty unmarked space to camp no power but lots of hot water in open air shower. Camp is clean and well looked after Un-fenced and animals do wonder into the camp. 4x4 routes for the semi adventures, not difficult for the experienced driver, novices take it easy. Plenty game and... More

We were very impressed with the accommodation, we stayed in a two bedroom chalet which was very clean, quite well equipped with very nice quality bedding. The camp is well cared for. There are some nice walks around the perimeter of the camp. The included breakfast was a buffet for the first two mornings which was fine but ' a... More

We came to Ithala at the very end of a remarkable five weeks in KZN. Apart from a monkey who stole our coffee it was a fantastic experience of peace and silence. It is a beautiful and extraordinary place, especially in winter. It can't compete with other parks for likely sightings of animals - though they are definitely there -... More

There is no better park to go and relax and enjoy the magnificent beauty of nature. We stayed at Doornkraal campsite for 4 nights and were delighted by the clean and neat and well maintained campsite. I could find nothing broken or in need of repair. All the view sites and picnic spots were a delight to visit. We saw... More

We spent 2 wonderful nights camping at Doornkraal...during our stay we did a self-drive around the reserve even tackling the more extreme 4 x 4 routes. The reserve is stunning with plenty of plains game to be seen...we however were not lucky enough to see any of the supposedly numerous leopards in the reserve. We treated ourselves to a beautiful... This Game Reserve was a revelation. Spectacularly situated main camp - very well run and well-maintained, with wonderful opportunities for scenic self-guided walks & views. Beautiful drives too - mountainous scenery (especially viewpoint over the Phongola River) makes a different backdrop for the usual wildlife sightings.

We visited Ithala after we had spent 4 days in the Krüger Park, then Imangasilo and we just fell in love with the people, the landscape, the diversity of the plants, the riverbeds and more than everywhere else fantastic white and even black Rhino. We were almost charged by one big male, we could observe for a long time a... More
