We rented a car and spent three days, two nights meandering. The countryside is beautiful. Don't hesitate to head down dirt roads as that's where some of the most interesting places are. There were not as many artisans as expected (and some listed as open were closed) Also, don't rely totally on the GPS coordinates in the Midlands Meander guidebook... More

My daughter recently bought a getaway from it all Farm in the Midlands. We visited her in March and had a lovely relaxing stay. The farm itself is 25 hectares of tranquility and has a lovely Swiss Style Cottage and a Dam. It nestles on the foothills of iNhlosane "The Maidens Breast" It is a Paradise for her Jack Russell... If nothing else it provides you with a beautiful drive through lush green countryside but around each corner there is something of interest to suit everyone's taste - craft shops, eateries, accommodation, historical monuments, brewery, manufacturers - never end list

A pleasant drive from Durban of about an hour and a half. We spend the morning at the Piggly Wiggly country village where we had coffee at Piggly Wiggly restaurant ( under separate review) and spent the rest of the morning walking around the various diverse shops which some are a second hand book shop, excellent wine outlet, which has... so....decided to take a small tour around the meander yesterday and boy oh boy has it become a stale piece of old takkie...everyone seems to stock the same stuff, which is either craft knick knack, leatherwork or antiques. I cannot recall seeing one new store but encountered numerous ones that while advertised on the map and despite having massive signs... More

I found the Midlands Meander and the places I visited along the way very nice, I met some lovely people and also some not so nice people, we had an awesome time at the Chocolate Factory at the Junction. The scenery along the way was breath taking.

Honestly, I was never too impressed by the Midlands, although everyone else seemed to love it. I have now come to realise, or should I rather say My Eyes have been opened. The Midlands Meander for those who do not know is a wonderful drive through the Midlands on Kwa-Zulu Natal, there is also a whole host of things to... More

Thank you for taking time to write a review. We are so glad to hear that your perceptions have changed. Some love the rolling green hills in summer; others look forward to seeing a dusting of snow in winter; and others love the autumn palette. It sounds like you're a summer-lover so we hope to see you again in the... More

Meandering is my all time favourite Sunday past time. We do it often. I love the rural scenes and wide open spaces. We love Spiral Blue for eastern jewellery and clothing, Swissland cheese for picnics, the capture site for our history. St Ives is a beautiful spot for lunch. Patchwork Elephant for gifts. I have bought unusual and interesting herbs... More
