I have been to several zoos (from London to Seattle) and grew up around the Pretoria zoo. I can admittedly say that the Pretoria Zoo (SA National Zoo) is the best kept, with the widest variety of animals, enclosures, programmes and visibility of the before-mentioned. You can make a full day outing of a zoo visit and the zoo truly... More

Africa is blessed with some of the world most amazing animals and crawling creatures. A stone throw away from most major hotels, just ask your concierge to organize a round trip for you and the family. You won' regret it.

This place is a dive. Empty exhibits. Rundown. Tired looking. Paths barricaded off for construction or they were too dangerous to walk on. The day we went there was about 500,000 school children running amok. Joburg Zoo was much nicer than this.

There are a lot of animals to see, and a great place for tourists. The downside is the restaurant which is very basic. I feel they could do wth an upgrade ...or else take your own picnic!

You can easily spend a whole day at the zoo as it includes a small aquarium and aviary and lots of view points/ plants. The zoo is located in the city center, it's a good escape from the noise and shopping especially if you have kids. As it is a down town area, be careful when walking in the streets.... More

We would just like to warn about the security problems outside the zoo. We visited the zoo on Sunday and as the car park was full we parked our car on the street ca 30 meters from the zoo entrance. When leaving the zoo and entering our car two guys with big knifes robbed us. Don't trust people on the... More

unbelievable the assortment of animals in a big city. The large bird aviary is outstanding. Overall neatness does need a bit attention.

A treat for the whole family. Pack a picnic and blanket or simply buy food and drinks from the kiosk, but this is a place to go and visit. Kids will enjoy all the animals and activities - especially if you're on time for feeding the penguins or the lions. Make sure you put enough time aside, as this could... More
