We visited the Rietvlei Nature reserve this past weekend for the early morning game drive and breakfast afterwards. Peter, our guide did a wonderful job on taking us to the Rhino's, Buffalo, the hundreds of various buck, while giving so much interesting information on the nature reserve birdlife, plants and history. We visted the Bird Hide where you could also... More

The picnic area was really clean! We saw a few animals and we enjoyed it alot . A must see for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and its not over crowded by people. Spending quality time with loved ones and friends without tech !

We try to go about once a month. The entry fee is less than the price of a movie ticket and unlike a movie, the scenery and its inhabitants are constantly changing. There's a wonderful braai/picnic area at Marais Dam with plentiful parking. It has been an absolute pleasure over the years to watch the Rhino 'herd' increase into double... More

We loved every minute of it. We had a guide who took us to see how they feed the lions and the viewing deck is great. Thereafter we travelled all along the dirt roads, accessible for ordinary cars, and the binoculars came in handy. It is advisable to have a route map because lots of smaller roads lead of bigger... The Rietvlei Nature Reserve is great for a quick wildlife outing if you live in Gauteng. You can drive around at your leisure and see lots of animals. The kids enjoyed it tremendously.

We have been here several times and always enjoyed the wide-open grasslands, easy access to animals and variety of birds and buck. There are lovely hides to watch water birds and places to picnic and barbecue in a tranquil environment, So affordable and close to the city with good roads to the place and inside.

Lovely area, and very clean. Lots of picnic spots. Very scenic, clean and well maintained surprisingly for SA government run park.

We booked ourselves on the Lion tour at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve and were extremely surprised to learn that it is much bigger than only Rietvlei dam (that provides Pretoria 15% of its water). It offers a number of sporting facilities like fresh water fishing, the yacht club, and hiking and cycling. The roads are well maintained to self-drive your... More

Wild life experience for pittance: out of this world experience. We did the reserve in 2 hours, saw rhino, zebra, eland, etc. I have never experienced this quality for the affordability. The kids were amazed with rhino literally crossing roads and zebra happily playing on verges, so perfect photos taken. An A-class experience.

This is a very nice reserve in the city. A good network of good dirt roads allow you to explore for a while. Antelopes, zebras, ostriches, cape buffalo etc. Many bird blinds or hides allow you to observe birds in on near water. A great place to see the summer only displays of the Long tailed widow birds and red-collared... More
