Rietvlei Nature reserve is a place where you can find peace for your soul outside the city. You can drive around watching the wild animals as well as sitting at a hide to do bird watching. The Coffee Shop is a must to visit. The picnic spot is neat and clean and lovely to have a picnic or even a... More

This is such a pleasant way to spend a few hours - lots of game - even rhinos if you are lucky, followed by a picnic lunch at the river. Usually good birding too!

I spend many wonderful days at Rietvlei and always manage to find a new bird. The tea room is a lovely half-way house with a birding delight on the terrace.

It is nice to have nature so close to the built up areas . The wild flowers at certain times of the year is stunning . It is nice to drive through the area, and their are spots for fishing . It can do with more shady spots for a picnic . It is also very difficult to get hold... More

Excellent game viewing and good roads to drive on. The variety of antelope and birds are a feast for nature lovers. Excellent picnic spots and restaurants nearby. Do not forget to visit the lion enclosure and the tea garden. Playground facilities available for the kids.

This is a massive reserve with very well maintained roads that you can take your own car to drive throug. Allowing you to explore at your own pace. I spent 3hrs driving around it. I got to see many different animals and their behaviours in a natural environment. Only thing I missed is not seeing a jaguar or cheetah. But... More

Rietvlei has had a substantial upgrade since I last visited and it's really good value for money. Sure it doesn't have the Big Five, but I saw both Buffalo and Rhino's when I was there, plus Eland, Blesbok, Red Hartebeest, Springbok, Waterbuck, Zebra, Wildebeestes and even a Roan (or a female Sable) The hides are great and everything was clean... Nice Nature Reserve in front of your doorsteps in Pretoria. Have been a lot of time and always discovered new things, saw different animals and nature changing on the season too. Nice resting places with braai facilities and trees. The restaurant is also very nice to have a little break and watching the animals approaching when they get their hey... More
