Brisk morning air, hardly any visitors at this early time. Many waterbirds fanning and stretching on the dead tree branches in the dam; the air filled with small birds searching for breakfast. What a peaceful setting!

This is a lovely spot to spend a few hours or even a day. The picnic area next to the dam is always spotless, and if you are lucky a hippo or two may entertain you during lunch. The bird life is prolific and we have never failed to see several rhino and many antelope species. The little creatures pop... More

As a family we have been visiting Rietvlei for many, many years and it has never failed to please. It is an inexpensive outing to a lovely reserve where you can spend quite a few tranquil hours bird and animal watching. There is now a very nice food and drink stop at the "farmhouse" which became a very welcome addition... More

This not the place to be. False advertising, there are no cheehtas no buffilo, u have to pay to see the lions seperatly from the rest of the wild. Very desapointed with this place not wild life at all.

We went for a brunch at the picnic spot in the reserve and en route we had views of many animals in the veld and even next to the roads. The landscape is beautiful and the animals are in top condition. It is a very relaxing place to go to for a whole day family outing. Most enjoyable.

We visited the Rietvlei Nature reserve this past weekend for the early morning game drive and breakfast afterwards. Peter, our guide did a wonderful job on taking us to the Rhino's, Buffalo, the hundreds of various buck, while giving so much interesting information on the nature reserve birdlife, plants and history. We visted the Bird Hide where you could also... More

We try to go about once a month. The entry fee is less than the price of a movie ticket and unlike a movie, the scenery and its inhabitants are constantly changing. There's a wonderful braai/picnic area at Marais Dam with plentiful parking. It has been an absolute pleasure over the years to watch the Rhino 'herd' increase into double... More

We loved every minute of it. We had a guide who took us to see how they feed the lions and the viewing deck is great. Thereafter we travelled all along the dirt roads, accessible for ordinary cars, and the binoculars came in handy. It is advisable to have a route map because lots of smaller roads lead of bigger...
