Suggest you make contact with the Parktown Westcliff Heritage Trust, they often have walks through this area. And once the Westcliff Hotel re-opens in late 2014, finish the visit with lunch or dinner at this venue, overlooking Johannesburg, incredible view. Parktown, and the beginning of Jan Smuts is where colonial Johannesburg started at the end of the 19th century, when the British designed this part of Johannesburg, starting in Parktown West, going all the way to Westcliff. There are no shopping centers or malls in Parktown, but it is lousy with the most beautiful historical buildings and homes from the wealthy mining history of Johannesburg. It is well worth a strenuous walkabout, and walking tours can be arranged through various institutions. Take a camera!!

This is a vibrant area of Joburg with good restaurants, clubs and bars and not far from Rosebank Mall which hosts the Cinema Nouveau and the Sunday Rooftop Market.

Area has definitely changed over time - alot more development taking place making the area very congested. Sill the hub of most businesses

The little shops and restaurants dotted along the sidewalks make you feel like you are walking in a part of Monaco or Italy. One feels safe and free and the people are all so nice and friendly ...

Would love to have the time to investigate the different shops and resturants. THe area suggests wealth, but shows happiness.
