It is free to go in, but it is not well kept. Toilets are in a bad state and the visitors are rough around the edges
The Botanical Gardens nestle in a valley that runs through Emmarentia. It sports a dam that is very popular with the canoing fraternity (beware it gets busy of aThursday evening). The park itself is beautifully layed out and contains two smaller dams beforethe main dam. The trees are clearly marked with name plates. There is a Youth Centre, a Restaurant... More
It is a marvellous asset for the city. It has had its ups and downs, but current management seems pretty good. Haven't seen much planting recently. The staff productivity is the big risk- you're lucky to see 10% of them actually doing anything if you do the time-honoured work study sample as you walk around- who is sitting, who is... More
Calm, peaceful place to stroll and take in nature. There is a beautiful rose garden, tree-lined paths, and a nice lake/pond/body of water to sit beside. The rose garden has many many different species, and I'm sure it must be overwhelming when they're all in bloom. Sadly, only about 50-75% of the rosebushes were in bloom during my visit, but... More
Maybe it was the time of year I was there (February, which is their summer) but I felt this was a poor excuse for a garden. There was really nothing much at all in bloom. The terraced rose garden was laid out beautifully but there were no roses; the bushes looked like they had not been tended for in a... More
This park has wide open spaces for walks and dogs to run around. It is good to see a space where the dogs are free to run around, socialise and exercise.
This is a must see in Johannesburg. I didn't go on my first South Africa trip and so glad we fit it in for our second. This is a great location for anyone that loves the outdoors. You can bring a picnic and toss a Frisbee and hang out all day long looking at the gorgeous flowers and pond. If... More
It's a nice place to go for a walk or relax and has some beautiful views. Overall it's a bit neglected and can do with some maintenance. The rose garden was properly the best part for me.
It is a joy to see our parks being maintained and one can forgive City Parks for slipping up over the festive season. Many newly planted trees along the pathways have taken root. The seasonal rains have transformed the parkland. Many owners neglect to keep their dogs on a leash which is quite annoying for those who do. Noise levels... More
A very pleasant place in the middle of the city. there are lot of picnic spots and maintained very clean. There is also a very small stream of river inside and there is a lake where kayak owners do kayaking.
