Really great place to go relax and have a picnic in a well maintained gardens. the restaurant is very nice for a light meal and the waterfall is always a great sight. The nesting eagles is also very interesting. If your into horticulture, all their trees and plants are labelled. There is also great bird watching.

This is a lovely large park and excellent for a weekend walk. There is a large area for dog walkers and some of the park is off limits for dogs, so be careful when corssing the large grassy areas as there is quite a lot of dog waste around. With lots of paths it is easy enouth to avoid however.... More

Strangely enough we went here on Mother's Day. We never eat out on Mother's Day because the service is always slow and no restaurant ever delivers its best when under pressure. It is heaven on earth for dogs - lots of other dogs to meet and greet. Emmarentia is filled with lots of happy dog lovers and people from all... More

The botanical gardens is in the heart of the city. Regular visitors include families, dog walkers, runners, cyclists, canoeists and those on romantic dates. The gardens are beautiful all year round, especially in Autumn and Spring when you can see the gorgeous trees changing colour or blooming with flowers. Don't forget to take some bread with you to feed all... More

Emmarentia Dam and gardens are a jewel in the city, where it feels like you have left town. Rolling lawns, a tranquil dam and beautiful gardens combine to make this a place to visit for a break from city life. It is a safe and pleasant place for children as long as you watch them near the water. Dog lovers... More

Emmarentia Dam and the gardens are well frequented by people and their pooches. On weekends, people cycle and canoe on the dam. It is a nice area to walk around and there is a cafe and cloakrooms that are adequate. Recently a group of artists constructed land art from the surrounds which theoretically would last until nature took its course.... More

It was a long weekend and we were wondering where to utilize the days without going out of Jo'burg. Got the idea of visiting botanical garden and it was totally worth it. Yes, people might think what to do in a botanical garden whole day long. But if you are a nature lover and like to be under the vast... More

This is a lovely space for walks or cycles. Rolling lawns, beautiful trees and plants, small and large dams. You can take children or dogs (on leashes). At the big dam is a rowing club, dinghy sailing club and model boat racing. Although there have been the odd small crime incidents reported we have walked regularly in the very early... More

I frequently visit on Sundays for a walk with my dog. Great wide open spaces and lovely shady routes along the river under the trees if it's hot. Remember to bring gumboots after there has been a lot of rain because it can get a bit boggy in summer in some places. There are plenty of good places for that... More
