They do holiday camps for kids where they have fun outside (wheather permiiting) and learn a lot about protecting the sea environment. Libby and her dedicated staff of volunteers are amazing.

10 minutes down beachfront Marine Drive, lies Cape Recife nature reserve which is home to the animals and volunteers of the South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre - well worth the trip. Nice littler tea shop and staff suggested numerous fantastic locations we would never have thought of. Penguins and gannets etc are looked after and released from here and the centre deserves loads of support given the great job they... More

Time your visit about 45 mins ahead of the penguin feeding time (call ahead and check for schedule) which is the must see. Samrec also offers local guided walking tours of the cape recife area, which are... More

The centre is a rescue centre for penguins and other birds that are either abandoned by their mothers or injured. A baby Egyptian goose was the highlight.
