A wonderful day from Wrangell with Brenda on the jet boat. The walk into the ravine is exceptional and the up close bear viewing will remain with us for years to come. Just 6 of us and Brenda for 3 hours in this pristine environment. Black Bears, Brown Bears, Bald Eagles, Salmon and more…..

You will need to visit visited An An Bear Sanctuar between June and August with local guides to experience the bears in their natural habitat catching the salmon. The bears were c wandering around us (we were in a safe enclosure and our guides were armed just in case) A fantastic day and great way to experience bears in their... More

If you have a chance to go to Anan to see brown and black bears you should do it. I missed this in 2012 and regretted it based on the photos I saw. On this small ship cruise this year we had a private guide and a flexible schedule so we got to spend almost the whole day here. We... More

We travelled to the Anan Creek Bear Observatory as part of a cruise ship day tour. It was the most incredible and enjoyable day I have spent for a very long time. After a 40 minute boat trip we then walked along an easy boardwalk trail for 30 minutes to Anan Creek. We were well protected by rangers carrying rifles... More

We had really wonderful 4 hours here after a 30 minute boat ride. You are so close to the bears it's unbelievable. They go about their business of fishing and gorging themselves seemingly unconcerned with the gawkers above them. They do know you are there, don't take your safety lightly. The food chain includes bears, bald eagles, ravens and even... More

If you are looking for an affordable and simply amazing experience, book a trip to Anan Creek Bear Observatory. Alaska Airlines has daily flights from Seattle to Ketchikan or Wrangell. From Ketchikan, it is a 30 minute float plane ride to the observatory. And from Wrangell, it is a 1 hour jet boat ride. When you do go, plan your... More

It's a great ride out there. Rained most of the time. There were only 3 bears & they didn't hang around very long. Check before you make reservations for recent bear activity & fish coming in to spawn.

Spent 4 days recently here photographing bears and birds. The setting is incredible -- black bears against bright green foliage and moss. The interpretive USFS rangers were excellent. They were friendly, knowledgeable, smart, and most importantly they used common sense and did not over react or freak out (like rangers I have seen in NPS bear viewing parks in Alaska).... More

we went with Breakaway Adventures. There were two couples on this trip. There’s about a 30 minute ride to the Forest Service dock, followed by 4-5 hours at the observatory itself (personally, I didn’t need to spend that much time there, but others were sorry to leave), so take water to drink. (You are told to leave anything with a... More

We absoluteky loved our tour of Anan. There were many bears to see, our guides were helpful and took great care of us, whilst ensuring care of the wildlife and environment as well. This was definitely the highlight of of trip to Wrangell.
