If you have never seen bears eating salmon and you like crowds of people this is for you. If you like natural bears acting in a natural way without the stress of people and other bears killing the cubs then look someplace else. Just to see bears go to Neets Bay. To observe bears and have a good time look... More

We visited this fantastic place in July, 2013. It didn't take long to see several bears and a few cubs. One bear climbed a tree for a nap. Another settled in close to the observatory deck while having his lunch. This is a place to definitely go again. It was a bit pricey, but as the forest service only allows... More

Fantastic place to visit to see both Brown and Black bears up close is what we were told. We did not realise just how close you get to them. Trip starts with a jet boat trip which is exciting in it's own right but then the walk along the boardwalk with a very knowledgable guide and the stay at the... More

We visited the Anan Creek observatory in early August. We took the tour through our cruise ship, the Regatta. We almost were unable to go since we had been wait listed even though we had signed up for the tour in April. Living in Northern Minnesota, we see wild bears all the time, there is one that visits our backyard.... More

This was one of our favorites during an almost monthlong trip to Alaska. The US Forest Service only allows 60 permits a day for visitors and from the minute we stepped off the boat, we saw bears -- first grizzly bear cubs playing & then swimming, then LOTS of black and brown bears, including a moma and her cubs devouring... The river gorge you spend the day in is beautiful! We spent 2 days, one sunny, one rainy. Both are beautiful. Lots of bear activity and wonderful guides and rangers. Drawbacks for photography are the steep overhead angle you view from. There is a photo blind at eye level that 4 people at a time can be in that is... More

In late August we went to An-An with Brenda of Alaska Charters and Adventures. Her jet boat is fun and comfortable, and she is a great guide, very informative and capable. The bears were numerous, and we could observe up close all their behaviors, and take terrific photos and video. Highly recommend.

The boat ride was terrific! We spotted a killer whale and her baby, so the captain slowed so we could observe them for a while. Anan was beautiful! The tropical forest was magical...and then you get to a viewing stage perched overlooking a river where several Alaskan Black Bears were fishing. We watched for a few hours and took fantastic... We came to Wrangell in mid-August and spent a 1/2 day at Anan. It was the highlight of our two weeks in Alaska. We saw both Black and Brown Bears, bear cubs, lots of salmon. We used Summit Charters and John (owner) was a great guide. You travel out on a jetboat for 1 hour and then walk 1/2 mile... More

Beautiful boat ride and hike into viewing area. Way more people than I had imagined. Bears roam freely, we are definitely in THEIR world.
