If you are fortunate enough to be there when the bears are feeding you are in for a great adventure. The Forest Service stations guards there to assure your safety while you observe the bears feeding on salmon from incoming streams. We took a family reunion group of about 18 there and all commented that it was the experience of... More

We took our Anan trip with Alaska Vista's and it was one of the most amazing adventures ever! The boat trip to and from Anan were a treat in themselves, with lots of wildlife viewing and photography along the way. With our skilled guides we felt safe walking into the observatory and out. We observed both black and brown bears... More

Lots of bears and opportunity to take great pictures. Renting the forest service cabin would be an adventure but we just went on a day trip.

This was a great trip. After an hour long enjoyable jet boat ride to Anan Creek from Wrangell we began our short hike to the observation deck. We were in a small group of 8 with a guide, John, at the lead. Shortly after beginning the hike we started seeing bears in the distance. Then, we spotted a cub in... More

If you want to see lots of wild bears, bald eagles, seals and salmon, Anan is for you. I was able to get some incredible bear and bald eagle photos. It is also a very beautiful place.

We travelled to Anan Creek with Jim and team from Alaskan waters in July, 2012. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The trip to the observatory was in a very speedy, comfortable boat with a small crowd from Wrangell. There was a brief walk to the viewing platform. At the viewing platform we saw numerous black bears and a few... More

Excellent trip! Highly recommend anyone who has not seen Black bear or Brown bear (called Grizzly in the lower 48) to take this tour. Our guide (John) was very knowledgeable about the bear's way of life which made the journey even better. As you approach the observatory the 'eye candy' begins w/ a beautiful bay, Bald Eagles lounging on the... More

The Anan bear observatory tour conducted by Alaska Waters Co. was a fantastic trip. It was a 70 minute trip jet boat trip down the Stikine river from Wrangell. Jim provided an excellent commentary and the boat had a bonus of its own toilet. We were escorted safely by James, Jim's son along the track to the river observation platform.... More

The time we spent at Anan Creek was by far the highlight of our Alaskan cruise and also the highlight of our broader 7 week holiday to Canada & the US. We travelled to Anan with Carlin Air who were fantastic in helping us source the required permits & then they provided safe & informative transport via float plane from... More
