Choose between the 5.25 hour Surprise Glacier Cruise and the 4.5 hour Blackstone Glacier Cruise. All trips are hosted by a Chugach National Forest Ranger. At the glaciers you'll often witness calving - a process by which glaciers shed giant blocks of ancient ice. This area is also home to a wide variety of animals including sea lions, seals, sea otters, and mountain goats; as well as an abundance of bird rookeries with many species including eagles and kittywakes. You can enhance your experience with our Alaska salmon and prime rib buffet, freshly prepared on board the vessel. All guests are guaranteed reserved seating inside our heated cabins. « less

Ordered the Major Marine 4.5-hr. Prince William Sound Tour from the website + buffet meal and bus ride . Took a shuttlevan from a hotel in Anchorage to Whittier via the 2.5-mile long one-way at a time tunnel. Checked in at the tour office and at boarding time went onto the catamaran boat, Fairweather Express II. The weather was typical,... More

We took the 12:15 Suprise Glacier tour. We included the buffet with our tour and it was very good. Our captian was a young lady named Laura. Very attentive and capable. The entire crew worked hard to make sure we saw everything possible. They obviously do this all the time as they spotted several bald eagles and whales. Then they... More

We went on a family trip June 2013 and took the tour out of Whittier. We arrived 2 hours before the tour was to leave and not much to do in the town to kill time. We have a 4 year old and 18mon old. It was cool and overcast with a few sprinkles. In anticipation of the weather we... More

Major Marine staff were helpful and delivered a stunning trip. Wildlife, Birds and Glaciers made for a stunning boat excursion. Couldn't have been better - no surprises with great equipment and staff.

On one side to be honest this wasn't an "amazing" experience but may because we were just off a cruise with a whale watch 2 days earlier. However, crew was very nice and friendly, food was excellent, views very beautiful . Even the check in counter staff were very nice! Overall a great experience, go for it if you haven't... More

We have cruised Alaska several times, but last June when we brought along extended family for their first Alaskan cruise, we wanted to provide them a dramatic beginning to their adventure. We booked the 5 1/2 hour Surprise Glacier Tour with Major Marine, and included rail transport to Whittier. Wow! What a beginning to a great trip! Smiling attendants at... More

Our first trip to Alaska was by cruise ship. That time we saw Glaciers from our ship and booked a whale watching trip as a shore excursion. When we returned 10 years later we flew into Anchorage and drove setting our own itinerary at our own pace. Still we wanted to see glaciers and we wanted to see aquatic wildlife.... More

Did the Surprise Glacier Tour and had an almost perfect day weather wise. To make it even better, there were only 26 passengers! Crew were great and the scenery is just spectacular. We drove down that morning from Anchorage and had plenty of time to spare. One of the highlights of our Alska trip.

Good crew. Intelligent and informative ranger on board. Food was excellent. Worth the price. Many glaciers seen, with a surprising amount of wildlife. Would do again. Free coffee and tea. Alcohol served.

We did the Surprise Glacier Tour prior to boarding the Diamond Princess for our cruise. This is very easy to arrange and to do prior to a cruise with no concern about boarding the cruise ship on time. We did our own transfer from Anchorage using Alaska Railroad. Yes you can still leave your luggage in the Princess tent in... More
