I visited Alaska with my wife in August. The Sundog Kennel tour in Talkeetna was the worst experience in this beautiful land. The owners are rude and do not try to provide any interesting explanation about the dogs and Iditarod. The ride with the dogs pulling the car is also not worth the time and the price.

You'll love this if you enjoy watching dogs run in front of an ATV. We were told that the dogs would be pulling a conveyance, which we assumed would be on wheels since there was no snow. Instead, the dogs simply ran in front of the motored ATV. I didn't find the staff rude, but the owner did hit us... More

When people ask me what I liked the most about my trip to Alaska this past August, I quickly reply the visit to Sun Dog Kennels in Talkeetna. Jerry and Kathleen are true mushers and the love of their sled dogs show through and through and they share their dogs with visitors -- we were licked by the mature dogs... More

My husband and I were put off a bit by the cost of this, but figured it would end up being worth it. We were both disappointed. As others have mentioned, mostly the owners (even their young son) seem to just barely tolerate people. We did leave a tip, but that was for the dogs. Be aware - these are... More

I took my daughter to this excursion - quite a bit of money for the experience I would say. I agree with all the reviews about the rude owners making you feel like they don't want you there and the owner told me that they do the tours to offset the cost of having the 75 dogs. While not mushing... More

The owners Kathleen and Jerry are sarcastic, bordering on rude. The information about the dogs and the race is interesting, but their attitude toward their visitors makes this experience not much fun. Example: their replies to questions make visitors feel stupid. They are condescending and seem like they are in this for the money, not for love of the sport... More

You cant really do authentic dog sled rides in the summer- without snow, so it was cool to be able to experience it somewhat, with the dogs pulling the ATV. It was neat to see how excited the dogs get to be able to do the run. The dogs are friendly, and getting to hold the puppies was cool too-... More

This was a weird experience, the dog mushing is really just dogs running in front of a jeep, some dogs were fighting. The kids liked holding the puppies at the end, but the tour at the Native Heritage Center in Anchorage is better.

It was very interesting to see a typical cabin and hear about the great dogsled race and the dogs didn't seem unhappy but I found the dogsled pulling ( with a car) rather disappointing and the conditions for the dogs not so happy.

There are a lot of sled dog places you can visit, but none as personal as Sundog Kennels. We learned all about the Iditorod race, but also got to go on a 5 mi 4-wheeler ride being pulled by sled dogs. It was great!!!
