My bother invited me to tour the face-lifted Yinhe Square, which he was truly proud of. The old, segmented concrete area has been replaced with a library, a shopping center, an art gallery, and a museum, embellished with lakes, trails, flowerbeds and well-trimmed grass. not so many people buying/shopping, especially in this one. Like all other Chinese shopping malls, there are more people in the dining floor than in the shops. When can China stop this resource-wasting spree on building up shopping malls where 90% of shops staying 90% empty of customers.

Like many cities in China, Tianjin has been investing a lot of money on its cultural facilities. This square features a new museum, library, theatre/concert hall, and art gallery, with a massive shopping centre on one side and an upgraded home for the Natural History Museum. In Yinhe Park citizens of Tianjin gather for square dancing to either traditional Chinese hymns or Western techno, to do roller skating or simply hang out. The park shows what Chinese landscape architects are capable of if given the possibility, and have created an outdoor activity area reminiscent of Heaven's Park in Beijing. Of course with adjoining apartment stores.
