Good walking trails for those of us who are not serious hikers. Stop at the HQ and talk to the Park Ranger for information on the role this area played in WWII. It is fascinating! This is an easy place to spend a day within minutes of downtown Kodiak.

Our cruise ship stops in Kodiak, Alaska. We take the Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park tour. We hike about 1.5 miles of the Wildflower Meadow Trail. There are a few steep spots along the trail but otherwise it is an easy hike. The trail passes through a shady spruce forest where mosses hang like shaggy beards from the trees. We... More

The park itself is beautiful. I din't have a chance to hike, but the parts I saw and walked around in were gorgeous, as were the views of the ocean. I loved the WW II museum. It's underground, a space that was used by soldiers stationed on Kodiak during the war. Very informative and interesting exhibits on how the soldiers... More

There was really not that much to see since the subterranean installation had been destroyed following WWII so that only pieces remain, plus what looked like 2 rusted cannons, but they may have been guns. This would be of more interest to veterans than the general public. The view of the ocean is impressive and I imagine the guns would... More

Just beautiful. We were there in the pouring rain but that didn't stop us from exploring. The trees are amazing. The moss that is growing on the trees is so thick you begin to imagine what may be living in it! If you're in town for a few days it is worth the time to rent a car and go... More

A must visit while in Kodiak. Easy to get to, just a couple miles outside town. The views are totally breathtaking. The woods and trails are peaceful , groomed, and easy to maneuver. Definitely returning.

Enjoyed driving and walking through the forest which is right on the ocean. I would like to spend more time there since we did not have time to actually explore the fort.

On sunny days the view here are amazing. Take a tour thru the bunkers for a lot of ww 2 equipment. Alaska state parks does a great job of maintaining the area.
