Just across the bridge from Kodiak is a gem of a park with varying trails and lookouts for all to enjoy. Go far or take a shorter trail, you will not be disappointed. About an hour walk from the cruise ship dock. A great place to stretch your legs. Bring a picnic lunch and eat on a log on the... More

This is a peaceful and super Park for easy and scenic walks. I loved the forests and the amazing views from the cliff edges out across the ocean. The Spruce forests are amazing and the chance of seeing a bear adds to the wonder of this spot.

We went for a drive to Fort Abercrombie State Park and were very impressed. It has magnificent trees and great views over the bay. We enjoyed walking around and looking at the old gun emplacements and bunkers. These date back to WWII when soldiers were stationed here as Kodiak's watchdogs. They used to be on the lookout for enemy ships... More

Just outside of Kodiak, up a winding gravel road lies the once vital strategic Ft. Abercrombie. Great views out over the approaches to Kodiak. The 8" guns were left where they were blown up after the war. One bunker is now a museum which describes the fort's historic mission and even still has a working dial phone intercom. Beautiful forest... More

My husband and I rented a car during our cruise port time and headed right to the fort first. There was misty rain but lovely. We hiked the Wildflower Trail first and saw a few bunkers left over from WW11. Nancy, the forest ranger was very informative and gave us some suggestions. We did tour the museum which cost only... It is right on the water. There are cliffs and scenic overlooks and lakes and all manner of paths. Some of the paths are even stroller friendly. There are plenty of outhouses too. Go once or go everyday of your time in Kodiak. Lots of locals use it too.

486-6339 - Call for info. Great place to get out and hike and see some of the WWII bunkers and buildings that are still standing. Great to walk and hike, make it a quick hike or a longer one. Great views from Miller Point for whales and puffins!

This is a very nicely-laid-out park, with lots of room to hike without the bother of vehicles. The campsites seem very sweet, though I visited in January and would not have wanted to pitch a tent then. The promontory with the giant artillery mechanisms is arresting. You can imagine the thoughts of the men and women stationed here in WWII,... More
