We transported our vehicle (costs per foot) up to Skagway taking 3.5 days and drove back to home. You can buy a boat ticket and sleep in a chair, sleep in your tent on the back sun deck or inside acceptable areas or stay in cabins and sleep in a bed :-), cabins are an extra cost. There is a... Travelled from Whitehorse to Juneau and back on a five-day trip: it was actually less expensive to take the car on the ferry than to fly down and rent a car. It does take some time, six hours as opposed to a 45 minute flight from Skagway, but the scenery is absolutely gorgeous, and there are all kinds of opportunities... More

I had a great time on this boat. Granted, the cruise ships are going to have far more amenities, the Alaska Marine Highway has better scenery in my opinion, and it was very comfortable. I traveled in a cabin which had the smallest window in the world, but it was very comfortable. Other accommodations had larger windows, but were priced... More

The ferries are not fancy but are very clean and practical. You can meet local people but there are also tourists transporting their cars and RV's. The ferry even had a Park Service ranger give educational talks. We had to study the schedule carefully so we could have time in the towns we wanted to as the ferries had minimal... More

If you're planning to drive to or from Alaska I highly recommend taking the ferry. I boarded the ferry in Haines. My cabin was small and clean; with a window and shower inside. The ferry had a cafeteria with good food, movie theater, laundry room, and a Marine Guide who taught us about the sea life along the journey. The... More

We started our journey from Haines Alaska to Prince Rupert. We saw whales along the way and also saw what a needed item the ferry is for the small communities. Each place we stopped we picked up another cross country running team with their coaches. This is how the travel to compete for their regional championship. We got off the... More

I planned a trip to Juneau, Sitka, and Haines and chose to take the Alaska Ferry. I had previously traveled this route on a cruise line. However due to the size of the cruise ships, they could not take the real inside passage. The highlight of the cruise for me was traversing the Wrangle Narrows at night. With all the... More

Took the AMH from Prince Rupert to Juneau, then Juneau to Haines! Such a fun little 'mini cruise'. Highly recommend! Everything you need is on board and we were backpacking and this option of travel is super accommodating to backpackers. Loved every second and even got to watch a movie on the way!

The best way to see all of Alaska coast, villages and Inside Passage. Lots of sleeping and eating choices for all budgets. You can even bring a cooler of food and pitch a tent. The scenery is beyond compare. And, you meet some amazing locals, tourists and adventurers. I really did meet my husband at the ferry terminal and cruising... More
