We traveled on the Columbia from Bellingham, WA to Juneau, AK. The cabin was simple but very nice and more than adequate. The food was mediocre and a bit pricey - barely adequate. Sadly is was rain and fog for the entire voyage, so the potentially great views were covered over. The ride was smooth, relaxing and pretty much uneventful.... More

Traveled on the Matanuska from Ketchikan to Juneau. Splurged and got a cabin with a window, bunk bed, and full facilities. Small but adequate, and the shower was nice and hot. I slept there, but spent most of the day in the lounges and cafeteria. Unlike the fast ferries, the older ships have full kitchens, and the food is quite... More

We travelled from Juneau to Prince Rupert on the Matanuska (car ferry/boat) - 2 nights and booked a 2 birth cabin with window and full facilities (shower, toilet basin) cabin 21 B- long bunk beds, fold out table and a chair. Limited hanging space and hangers. It's SMALL - similar looking to a jail cell on TV BUT clean and... More

Make your reservations in advance and bring photo ID to get on board. We took the ferry out of Juneau to Gustavus AK. Everyone at the terminal is super friendly and eager to help. We didn't know what to expect but the bring a luggage rack and you load your bags , walk on the ferry and away you go.... More

We just had a great time riding the Matanuska from Prince Rupert to Juneau. It was simple to go thru customs and our berth was more than adequate and very comfortable. Food was good and plentiful We would certainly travel this way again when visiting Alaska.

We took the Taku from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan. This is my 4th time on AMH. They say you need to be there 3 hours before sailing and while we were there 3 hours early I don't think it is necessary. Going through the US customs checkpoint was more intensive than any other time crossing back into the US. We... More

After reading an excerpt in a travel book about the marine ferry system in Alaska, my husband and I determined to experience Alaska in that way. After a couple of plane changes, from Connecticut, we flew in to Ketchikan and stayed there a few days. Then we boarded the M/V Taku for our first ferry trip ending in Sitka. It... More

I'm not sure which ferries we were on, but we traveled from Haines to Juneau, AK in early June of 2014 and returned to Haines from Juneau 5 days later. The first ferry from Haines to Juneau (a 4 hr. trip) was much larger and had cabins as well as a full service kitchen. The food was very good and... More

We took the MV Columbia up from Bellingham to Juneau, and would like to echo the positive experiences that others have shared. Here's what you won't get: 1) Photographers constantly taking pictures and trying to sell them to you. For that matter, nobody tries to sell you anything. 2) mints on your pillow at night or gourmet food. 3) Shows,... More

Love to travel the Alaska Marine Highway. We had a 4 birth with sitting area. Ate in the dining room for dinner and was very good food and service. Even though it rained most of the time we had fun.
