We are locals and visit the falls several times a year at all four seasons. My partner hates to hike and is in terrible shape and still he enjoys the walk out while smoking and sneaking sips of Jack Daniel from his flask. All kidding aside, it is a lovely walk on uneven ground.

Every year since I moved here over 20 years ago, I walk to the falls a number of times each summer. The trail has improved over the years and it is a must do if you are in JNU for one day or even one week. It's about 1 mile from the Forest Service visitor center.

Nice walk to the water fall, very nice view towards the glacier. And the best thing, you could stand just in front of the water fall and feel the power it have.

When friends arrive by air or sea, Nugget Falls is often the first trail we take them to see. The flat ¾ mile trail is an engaging glimpse into what Juneau has to offer. While this can feel like a bustling big city street during peak summer, it is often clear in the early mornings and late evenings perfect for... More

We took the bus from the downtown port area to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. The hiking trials are very easy and we were able to complete them in a short amount of time. We saw bald eagles and salmon. We did not see any large animals (bear, etc.) but there had been sightings. This site was beautiful. I highly recommend... More

Okay cruisers, skip the bus and take a taxi to Mendenhall. It is only a few bucks more and you get there faster, giving you a chance to walk the path to Nugget Falls by yourself. Great views of Mendenhall and beautiful iceburgs reflected in the water. This waterfall is great because you can get very close to it without... More

If you're already at the glacier, you might as well walk out (20 minutes?) to the falls so you can see the glacier even closer, and feel an icy spray from the falls! Beautiful, loud and fun!

If you have come this far to see the glacier you might as well take the easy trail to Nugget Falls and also get a close up view of the glacier. The hike is easy with great views along the way. when you get to Nugget Falls you can go down onto a sand bar (beach) and get a close... More
