Description: Gold Rush Dog Tours highlights summer cart-mushing in the picturesque...
Gold Rush Dog Tours highlights summer cart-mushing in the picturesque Sheep Creek in Juneau, Alaska. Your approach to dog-camp will bring you by the relics of Juneau's famed mining history, transporting you through the rain forest from sea level to our mountain valley home. While in camp, you will meet the Handlers and Mushers of Sheep Creek, as well as their teammates, the famed dogs of Alaska's official state sport. Following proper introductions, dog sled history, and a little mushing 101, you will take to our specially designed trainer carts for a 20-15 minute ride. Be sure to watch for porcupine, eagles, and even the potential black bear along the way. And then, there's cookies. Upon returning, it's time to crab a cookie and hot cup of cocoa prior to departing ways for your next adventure. Gold Rush Sled Dogs is ideal for groups and mushers of all ages. We look forward to seeing you this summer, happy tails!

Best excursion ever! So many dogs! They were like "pick me, pick me" so excited! Our musher, Maliko was so knowledgeable. I was so impressed. She has such passion and loves the dogs so much. She took her time and answered many questions. (Good luck in your future race!) I learned so much from Maliko about the Alaskan Husky. It's... More

This was the best surprise! We loved our time with Gold Rush Dog tours. It was great to see the dogs working together and how well trained they were. We enjoyed learning about the history of dog sledding too. Thank you for a great time!

We enjoyed the visit to this dog camp, we booked through our cruise ship. It was great to see the dogs and how excited they get "pick me! pick me!" when the handlers are choosing from the 100 or so dogs to hitch up to the sled that day. We learned lots about dog sledding, the lives of the dogs... More

We were on vacation in June 2015 and took this tour while docked at Skagway, Alaska. We were on the Norwegian Sun. This was by far the best excursion of our trip! Matt and Kaci were very personable and informative. They gave us a close up look about the dogs who run the Iditarod. Kaci did a demonstration of mushing.... More

Though the ride up to the dog camp was a little bumpy and rough, the awesome sights started as soon as your turned off the main road. The guide told stories about gold mining and its history in Alaska, and pointed out sights for possible bear sightings! The dog tour was great- how amazing that such small dogs can pull... More

Thank you ljberg12, The history of the area is incredible, with Juneau the first town established post 1867 transfer and the first Alaskan town established as the direct result of a mineral discovery. The road to dog camp was laid 100 years ago! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for the kind words, Gold Rush... More

Highly recommended tour, gave great insight on what dog mushing is all about. We were impressed to have a former Iditarod finisher as our tour guide. Dogs were friendly and well trained and clearly enjoyed doing what they do best, pulling the sled!! Not only was it a very informative, fun tour, the breath taking view of the mountains made... Loved this excursion. Just returned from a Disney Vacation Member Alaska cruise and this was my favorite of all my Alaska excursions. The staff have a love and respect for their dogs and instill that along with education on sled dogs to their customers. I was surprised how fast the sled went. My tour guide works here in the summer... More

Thank you for the kind words Linda, it is hard for us to leave as well. We are very thankful to have the dedicated and genuine staff that we do. One of the joys of this is that we are able to encourage folks to pursue their mushing aspirations not only though employment but race sponsorships as well. We would... More

By far the most surprising thing to me when we visited was how small the dog sled dogs are. We definitely expected more muscular/bigger dogs. Most of these guys were small and lean. It was tons of fun watching the dogs go crazy when they knew we were about to go...they all started howling and jumping up and down getting... More

Greetings Closingtyme, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for choosing to join us in Southeast Alaska. As the sport of Mushing has progressed the Alaskan Husky has been breed to the leaner, faster, stronger dogs that you observed in dog camp. The desire of course, to cross the finish line first with the entire team... More

The cruise website's description was VERY misleading. First of all, these are not Iditarod dogs, and the mushers tell you this. In addition, our musher had never even done the Iditarod. We booked this through the ship at $160 a person, which was way too expensive. When we went on the train tour in Skagway, there was an opportunity to... More
