If you like glacier, waterfalls, mountains, water, fresh air; this is the place for you. We were a group of 11 from a cruise. We dock at Juneau around 1:30. We took the bus to Mendenhall Glacier at 2pm. The bus circulates every 30 minutes, with the last bus leaving Mendenhall Glacier at 4pm. Some of us who are less... More

The Mendenhall Glacier is beautiful, the visit center is such a nice facility. The time lapse video of the glacier was amazing. We loved the waterfall and also seeing the salmon run. A bear had recently partially eaten a salmon out of the stream, so we barely missed seeing that. Definitely a great place to visit. Plan to spend at... More

We saw the glacier after disembarking from Holland America Cruise ship in the afternoon. It was a spectacular sight. You could see it clearly from the visitor center and from a short walk away. The glacier blue color that it emits is other worldly and is a site you do not want to miss. In August the salmon are running... More

If you have the time when visiting the Mendenhall Glacier, take private transportation and spend a few hours there. There are beautiful hiking trails that are well worth a look and of course the lovely waterfall. The hike will give you a new appreciation for the beautiful array of plants and wild life in this part of Alaska. We had... More

The Mendenhall Glacier is really worth visiting. The history of it is interesting, and tells how much it has receded over the last few years. We visited as part of a Juneau land tour while on a cruise. See it before it recedes even further.

The glacier is pretty spectacular, even on a rainy day. The visitor's center was good, but the advice was a bit lacking. I asked for directions to one of the trails, and I got properly directed. It was only when I got there that I saw that the main part of the trail was closed. Someone could have told me... More

The first tour we booked on our cruise (Norwegian Pearl) was with Gastineau Tours. It was whale watching and a hike through the rain forest to Mendenhall Glacier. We arrived at the lake and saw the glacier in front of us, extending back 13 miles. There was a large waterfall to the right, with people standing beside it looking like... More

Great visitors center and a short one mile hike to Nugget Falls. Watch the 15 min video that runs every 20 mins. Naturalist at most of the frequented spots to answer your questions.

A trip to the Mendenhall glacier was included in a shore excursion we purchased with our cruise. I took some of the best pictures of my trip while at the glacier. We took a trail down closer to the glacier and Nugget Falls. The trail was well groomed and easy to walk. I got closer the glacier and the waterfall... More
