The Mendenhall Glacier may be the most visited in Alaska but with the huge trail system you can get away from the crowds and enjoy all the natural history, wild life and views in solitude. If you time it right you share the trail with bears. Year around you share the trail with porcupines.

Arrived by cruise ship at 7:30 AM. Walked to downtown and picked up a rental car. Absolutely outstanding. We parked close. Beating the crowds we were able to walk the trail to the water fall. Relaxed, great photos, beautiful! Spent and hour at the visitor center. Well worth the time.

Viewing this glacier only takes a few steps from your car/bus. The ranger station has a lot of information as well as restrooms. You can take an easy 1-mile hike along the edge of the lake to the foot of a waterfall. The weather was a bit cloudy when I was there, so the glacier did not have a lot... More

We took a tour bus to the glacier, and walked to Nugget Falls. I cannot put into words how gorgeous the scenery was! The price was right, the tour guide was amazing...we even saw a black bear on the trail! I actually proposed to my partner here so needless to say the day was memorable!

We were going to hike up to the Glacier, but there had been bad weather and the trails were closed, but there was an information booth were we saw close up pictures. We got very close to the glacier even without walking the trails.

Spectacular views, wonderful hiking trails, well worth the short drive out to the park. Visitor Center was closed when we visited but I'm told it is really worth seeing.

We took a taxi from the cruise terminal (9 of us). We walked the area to the waterfall and onto the "sandbar" nearby. The water is near freezing and numbs the feet but were warmed by the sand on the sandbar. Great views of the glacier and nice hike (not too long, maybe 10 minutes, easy terrain). We hoped to... Great photos of glacier and there was a very cool bird just hanging out on the beach watching us! My grandson had a blast running on the trails. Definitely breathtaking view with walking trails.

This was the highlight of our trip to Juneau. It was drizzling slightly but still sunny so the weather was great . Since it was towards the end of the travel season, it was not very crowded. So, we took out time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures.

I spent a day in Juneau and visited the Mendenhall Glacier which is a MUST SEE if you are in Juneau. Its beautiful. The ice looked blue! You can hike to some waterfalls which are right to the right of the glacier. Definitely worth the stop
