Glacier is inching away so try and see it if you can! I had the opportunity to do a Mendenhall Glacier Trail Hike which enabled me to see where the glacier was in the late 1930s. It is spectacular and you can definitely get close to see it.

We recently visited Juneau aboard the Norwegian Jewel and booked a tour to the Mandenhall Glacier, our experience was amazing with breathtaking views. Our first time to this part of the world and was one of the best features of our trip

We came into Juneau on a cruise ship and a bus was waiting for us at the pier. We went directly out to the glacier maybe 20 minutes travel at most. The driver pointed out wildlife to us and gave us history of the area. (Saw many eagles) The glacier is beautiful! It is so big and the ice so... More

We took in Juneau on a recent visit on RCL's Rhapsody of the Seas. We skipped the cruise company's excursions and decided to do it on our own and I'm so happy that we did. When we got off the boat, we headed towards the taxis and had the pleasure of meeting up with Ted from Juneau's Taxi Tours. For... More

Well worth seeing. Take the Blue Bus to get there, buy tickets in town, $20 RT. Be sure to hike out to Nugget Falls, see the glacier and falls together up close...maybe 1 mile. We were here without our grand kids about 10 years ago and it's much smaller now. So see it while you can.

But the nature walks around the glacier are very pleasant and we did get to see a Black Bear and the first salmon of the season!

You can view right from the tourist center. There is no food for purchase though because of the wildlife. It's close to Anchorage so if you only see one glacier it's better than nothing.

Go early if you are not on the cruise ship!!! Once the ships come in, it is crazy and you cannot enjoy the glacier as much...too many people. It is worth going and seeing but should not be on the top of your list...many more spectacular glaciers in Alaska.

Dont but tickets ahead of time for just the Mendall Hall Glacier trail. Check the weather, public transportation & renatal cars first. The cost is less than $5 per/person if you go on your own plus your transportation costs. The shuttle excursion cost we paid was $89 per/person. Honestly, I felt like it was taken for a fool by the... More
