This fairly pricey Chopper ride was very cool. It not only gave you a view of the city but a landing on the glacier and some great info as to it's movement and changes.

Visited Mendenhall Glacier while on cruise of Alaska. This was disappointing, as you cannot get up close to the glacier. You can view it from afar aka the Mendenhall welcome center. Not much else to do there. A few people found a waterfall and "hiked" to it. Should have stayed on this ship!

What a highlight to our trip to the inside passage. Three couples spent 10 days in Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell and Haines. We traveled by the state-run ferries and saw some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. On our first day we rented bikes from Cycle Alaska in Juneau to travel the 14 miles to the Mendenhall Glacier. The route was... More

If you are driving, it's 10 minutes out of town. However if you are using public transport, you can take a shuttle for $20 return. If you are prepared, you can haggle and lower the price. Make sure you have a jacket, don't listen to the locals saying their is no difference in temperature.

The park has done a great job with trails and maps. Some of the trails interpretive signage is overgrown. Be prepared for tons of people....the glacier is stunning. Exactly what you expect. Our bus driver out to the glacier told all kinds of stories and pointed out the various landmarks, but failed to even mention the large population of eagles.

The Mendenhall Glacier is a place you have to see. It was more than I imagined. The color of the glacier, and It seemed so close that you just want to touch it. Really pretty.

Nine of us and our trusty raft guide Johnny "Shot the Mendenhall" in our 10 person rubber raft. What a great way to spend a day with some 1-3 rapids and more Eagles then I had ever seen. We started with a bus ride and tour to the river which was very informative of Juneau. Then we suited up for... More

Don't miss this place. We took the blue bus and had not one problem. This is the best way to see the Glacier because you are not on a schedule. The buses run about every 30 minutes so you spend as much or as little time there as you want.

In terms of glacier viewing, this is the best bang for your buck. You don't have to go on a boat, though those trips are awesome in and of themselves. Visitor center is really nice. Neighboring trails are great. If you have time, check out East Glacier Trail - moderate difficulty and beautiful.

Took the optional trip to the glacier that was offered through the Celebrity Millenium Alaska Cruise. This was well worth it. Close up look at Glacier and beautiful visitor center.
