Having never seen a glacier I was looking forward to this. Pity global warming (my view) has reduced the glacier to the other side of the lake but the views were still quite spectacular with the ice in the water, waterfalls and, of course, the glacier. There are some pleasant walks around the area. Visitor centre was fine but typical... More

This place is absolutely beautiful. Is a must see in Juneau. The water fall is about a mile from the visitor center. Easy to reach as there is a paved trail that take you closer to the fall and the Glacier. There also a natural trail that you can follow along the lake shore.

We took the blue line bus to Mendenhall Glacier and Falls. It was $20 round trip per person from the cruise port to the glacier. The bus runs about every half hour. There is a trail that is about 1 mile long, that you can walk, and it takes you right up to the falls and very, very close to... More

The Mendenhall Glacier is receding at a faster pace every year. Come out and see it before it will be only be view-able by helicopter or hiking. Well maintained handicap accessible paths and an informative staff. Great picture opportunity.

Pre-booked the canoeing on Lake Mendenhall as part of a day in Juneau while doing the Voyage of the Glaciers cruise northbound. This was utterly magic. It was drizzling rain when we set off from the dock to drive to the lake and glacier about half an hour away. Far from detracting from the experience, it made it better. We... More

It rained the entire time we were there but we enjoyed our visit just the same. The rangers were willing to take the time to chat and answer our questions. The hiking trail is well maintained and easy. Don't miss the film at the visitor's building/gift shop. Well worth the trip!

East to get to, but because our ship berth was a little remote, we had to get a bus from the foot of the gangway to the base of the Mt Roberts Tramway ($3 return) where we caught the white "Glacier Shuttle" bus ($20 return) direct to the glacier. Depending on your level of fitness, there are good photographs to... More

We went on a forest walk and ended up at the foot of the glacier. there was a small iceberg in front which was great. there is also a building where you can watch by telescope. From there we walked to an area where the salmom were running.
