Mendenhall Glacier is worth a visit. They have a nice visitor center with a good, informative movie. There is a short, easy hike (Nugget Falls trail) to the waterfall near the face of the glacier.

This is a short shuttle ride from downtown. You can get a good feel for the size of a glacier. The visitors center and the movie within are informative. We were lucky enough to see a bear and 2 cubs on the walkway down by the salmon creek.

After finding our way to the park early in the morning to beat the tour bus rush, we practically had the waterfall hiking trail to ourselves. The park is an awesome example of the value and importance of National Parks. A true Alaskan treasure.

The visitor center is decent, you can walk around to different viewpoints. Due to the fact the glacier is receding, I was disappointed how far away we were. Glad I had a zoom lens (70-200mm) to get decent pics

my husband and I recently visited the Mendenhall glacier and the surrounding park. We took a bus from the port in Junue. Both our drivers were friendly and full of information. Once at the glacier we took about a billion pictures! Then we did some hiking. The East glacier trail is about a 2-3 hour hike up, then down the... More

If your trip doesn't include any huge glaciers, the fact that you can get close to this one by walking without freezing your butt off makes for a nice day. Plus, where else can you get a photo of yourself barefoot in the water a few hundred yards from a glacier? Nice visitor center and the attraction itself is well... More

We took a city tour and then on to the Glacier. We walked about a mile to the Glacier and the Falls. Once there we had a great view of the glacier up close and the falls. It was a beautiful site. we walked back and went to the tour center It provided details of the Glacier and even had... More

As a speaker onboard cruise ships, I am always impressed with visiting Mendenhall Glacier just 12 miles outside Juneau, Alaska. Mendenhall is the most rapidly receding glacier in the state and provides visitors an exceptional look at the changing landscape in Alaska. Excellent visitors center with exhibits, hiking trails nearby, etc.

Like to share what I read that at bus drop point you see the great view of the glacier. We take an hour return walk to view Grand glacier, water fall & unusual sand bar next to it.

It's great, but there's a larger variety of more dazzling glaciers in Glacier Bay and College Fjord. If you're going to visit any one of those places, then don't waste your money on visiting Mendenhall Glacier.
