The key is a clear blue backdrop in the sky, and that's what I experienced on March 2nd! Parking can be a challenge on a holiday or weekend, but well worth the drive when in Juneau. The viewing areas are many and the walking trails are excellent. This sure is a Must Visit location!

We took a short bike tour to the glacier visitor center and got to see this magnificent glacier and falls. We had almost perfect weather to see the sights. Highly recommend.

I booked a helicopter tour and glacier trek through my cruise line. I can't remember the name of the company providing the tour, but it was booked through Princess. It was the most expensive excursion that I have ever done, but it was also the most memorable. The flight to the glacier was absolutely stunning! They dropped us off, and... More

The walk to the falls - a two mile round trip - is well worth it! Rangers were super nice and friendly. The bear warning is ALWAYS up, I was told, so don't worry.

I live five minutes from this Glacier and this is one of the two places that I recommend to see in Juneau. It offers a rather close up view of a Glacier and offers a variety of trails, including a well maintained trail that ends at a waterfall and a closer view of the Glacier than at the visitor center.... My daughter and I arrived in Juneau on a cruise ship but decided to go exploring on our own. From what we heard from other passengers who took tours, we did better than they did.We were not rushed and were able to spend a few hours hiking through the Tongass National Forest and exploring for only a few dollars that... Great area for hiking, bird watching, bear watching! At the visitor center outside there are Rangers available to talk to and ver informative. There is a memorial to a wolf that wandered the area for years, even was seen in the local neighborhood playing with dogs. I think they named him Romeo.

If you have never been to the Mendenhall Glacier, be prepared to be totally amazed. The views are stunning, the wildlife abundant and the Forest Service personnel are very informative. If you love beautiful scenic landscapes, this is the place!

We took the bus from the downtown port area to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. The hiking trials are very easy and we were able to complete them in a short amount of time. We saw bald eagles and salmon. We did not see any large animals (bear, etc.) but there had been sightings. This site was beautiful. I highly recommend... More
