We visited the Mendenhall Glacier on an excursion this past August while on a cruise with our grandson. We first visited the glacier in 1992, and I am attaching a picture taken from just about the same angle as the current icture in the heading of this attraction. You can see the change yourself. We, and our grandson, did enjoy... More

Our Princess tour bus dropped us off near the Visitors Center and advised us it was a 20 minute hike to the glacier. We needed to return to the bus in one hour, so it was a tight schedule. We ignored the Visitors Center and went straight for the trail to the glacier and waterfall. There is a sandy beach... More

A twenty-five minute bus ride was all it took to reach the Mendenhall Glacier visitor centre. You get a spectacular view of the glacier from the centre and are given a very good description of the history of the glacier. This is an unusual glacier in that it terminates in to a lake and not the sea. That is why... More

This was part of a package so we had limited time there. I REALLY wish we could have had a longer visit because there was a waterfall next to the glacier that I wanted to see up close, but there just wasn’t time. Still, so beautiful. Be aware that the visitor center charges a small fee.

This was our first glacier that we visited from our cruise ship. We were suppose to take a raft trip but heavy rains (12" worth) prevented us from being able to do that so we took a bus trip/excursion there instead. There are walking trails out to the glacier for great photo ops. Some of the trails were also closed... More

We came to the glacier booked threw our princess cruise ship. Great tour. It was a beautiful day and enjoyed seeing the glacier and the visitors center. Glad this was part of our tour. We did see many humpback whales(maybe 20) and had a salmon bake and ended with this glacier. If you can do this through Princess cruise ship,... More

While in port at Juneau, my husband and I decided to take the shuttle bus ($10/each way per person) to Mendenhall Glacier. Despite the fact it was pouring rain, this was a worthwhile trip. The visitor center was very informative, with a Park Ranger presentation, a film, and a museum. There was a fee to visit the center but if... More

What a wonder this is. Your can walk fairly close to the glacier and in the water below, you can see parts of it that have broken off. It is a constant process and you may hear as they break off. There is a small waterfall off to the right of the glacier. There is also a store/information place (which... More

We boarded a motorcoach for a scenic drive to Mendenhall Glacier. Formed during the Little Ice Age over 3,000 years ago this magnificent glacier has survived much longer than other glaciers in North America and it continues to provide us with new insights into past, present and future climate conditions. This is a wonderful attraction, there is a park ranger... More
