During our last Alaska cruise, we stopped at Icy Strait Point and enjoyed the location very much but the most incredible part of our whole cruise was the whale watching excursion we booked with Hoonah Whale Watching. Instead of the crowded (over 100 person) ship's excursion, there were only 8 of us and Capt. Paul Comolli took us on a... More

We booked this experience separately from the cruise ship. It was a good price, well organised in the planning and we had a fantastic time. The boat held 16 people, it was very modern and had great viewing opportunities. The captain and his ' mate ' were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and passionate about Alaska and its wildlife. They found... More

Booked independently of the cruise line for a fraction of the cost on an intimate tour, 16 guests in total (as opposed to the 150 guest all crammed onto a cruise ship tour boat). The booking experience was positive & all information provided about the meeting point was detailed & accurate. We were driven the short distance to the boat... More

We had the most awesome whale watching experience in Icy Strait with Hoonah Travel. Naturally the weather was a beautiful day and we seen whales at least 8 times and sea lions and many sea otters. Paul was our boat captain and told us stories and history of the land and eveyday life on Hoonah.. It was definitely a highlight... More

Captain Paul was excellent. The reviews on the boat/ trip are spot on. Clean and very nice boat. We had 10 in our group and everyone had a great time. All had an opportunity to take pictures on the front or rear of the boat. Very good narration of the area and living in Alaska. I would recommend them.

We saw some whales plus two sea otters trying to dunk one another. Capt. Paul was excellent at trying to put his boat in the perfect position so all onboard could see everything. It was a great day. If we were to book the same cruise again, we would definitely book this adventure.

The boat was fast, clean and spacious with plenty of room to move around outside to get a good look at the whales. We saw probably 4 or 5 different humpback whales but from quite a distance. The company was professional and the booking was easy and hassle free. I was a bit disappointed that the whales we saw were... More

I booked with cap't Paul after reading positive reviews on cruise critic and this site. My group of four were not disappointed! An excellent tour guide, Paul was full of information and his boat was perfect as far as having great views. We saw humpbacks, sea lions, sea otters, and even a bear on the shoreline. The bus driver Jamie... More

Capt. Paul and Zack (?) provide a wonderful adventure to see Humpback whales and seals in the Icy Strait area. Paul is an excellent tour guide providing an excellent overview and history of the small (700 people) town. The custom made boat is fast and provides ample viewing from the cabin, bow and stern. Far better than the crowded larger... More

Our whale watch in Juneau got cancelled because of the monsoon (kudos to Harv and Marv for their prompt refund) so we quickly booked on in Hoonah with Hoonah Travel. The woman on the phone was pleasant and helpful. We got on the bus and were treated to a lovely bus driver who gave us some history of the area... More
