I'm looking forward to being your photography "coach"! Logbook: Leave the Homer dock 9 a.m., head to Gull Island bird rookery near Halibut Cove for seabirds including puffins and cormorants. Then tour the south side of Kachemak Bay in search of marine animals like Dall's porpoises, sea otters, orca (killer) and humpback whales. Many opportunities to see and photograph bald eagles. Occasionally we'll see black bears. Return to Homer by 3 p.m. One rate for the entire boat: $650 plus Sales Tax/ 1-6 persons / 5 hours « less

This is a must take fishing trip. Jim is very friendly, knowledgeable and will see that you have a great time. We did not take the feast of the sea but did take an all day fishing trip for salmon and rockfish. we kept 44 lbs of salmon and 15 lbs rockfish. The boat is custom built, has an enclosed... More

My wife and I chartered Jim for the Feast from the Sea experience. It was perfect since my wife was more interested in wildlife viewing than fishing. Of course, she caught the largest sea bass and continues to remind me of it! Jim put us on rockfish, seabass and even a couple of salmon take home. He is a very... More

This is my second review of this worthy Homer, Alaska experieince. The fishing was fabulous with plenty of Yellow Eye Rockfish, a highgly sought after fish and hard to find. Captain Jim Lavrakas know where they are and how to haul 'em in. Then after catching its "feasting time" at Jim's retreat in Little Tutka Bay where Chef Aspin prepares... More

We went on two different trips with Captain Jim. What a wonderful man who knows the local history at great depth due to his years with the Anchorage newspaper. He is very patient and flexible as well as a careful captain. On the first day we caught our king salmon and had a wonderful day. On our next day photography... More

My wife and I did 2 tours with Skookum. We did the Feast of the Seas tour the first day then did the photo safari the second. Both were wonderful, and I am glad with did both. The Feast of the Seas tour is perfect for folks that want to try a little fishing but not just do that and... More

Family of five with kids ranging from 11-19 really enjoyed this unique Feast from the Sea experience. We were all able to enjoy a very interesting tour of some tide pools next to the captains cabin. There were all kinds of crabs, sea urchins, chitins, starfish and the kids were fascinated by all the life in these little shallow pools and streams. We were... More

Went out on 8/26 with Capt. Jim Lavrakas for the Feast from the Sea tour. It was my wife and I, along with her parents (who are in their late 60's, early 70's). We initially had thought about a full-day halibut trip, but decided that a more "local" trip might be a better idea. After our day on the water... More

We had a group of 11 -- two preteens, two older teenagers, and the rest 50 something friends. Jim's boat can only accommodate 6 passengers, so we booked two days of the "Feast from the Sea" tour -- half of us went on the boat each day, the other half checked out the shops around Homer and went beachcombing. (My... More

Wonderful combination tour. Fishing, sightseeing, incredible wildlife viewing and a great meal. Jim is a terrific captain. He knows where to find the fish and wildlife. He is also a professional photographer and he shared some valuable tips that greatly improved our photography. He also shares his intimate knowledge of the gorgeous Kachemak Bay while touring in his new, unique,... More
