We have been guiding trips to Katmai for 26 years, and we have a perfect safety record with our experience with the bears. Hallo Bay Bear Camp is a fully sustainable wilderness camp designed to be a trend setting model of responsibility and low impact to this environment. Our guests observe the bears in their natural habitat where there are no viewing platforms or man-made trails. We limit our groups in size because it is our experience that small groups are much less impacting than large groups of people on any wilderness outing. The smaller group size intimidates wildlife less and leaves a much less impacting footprint on the habitat. « less

This review gets 5 stars based on the service of the camp staff however if based on the service received prior to arrival I would give it a 2-3 star rating. We were a bit nervous having paid what to us a lot of money for a one night stay with very little communication from the office staff. We were... More

This was one of the most exciting events during our Alaska adventure. We gave ourselves an afternoon, plus the morning of the following day to try and take this day trip. The weather did not permit it the first afternoon, but the office staff tried very hard to accommodate us. Beverly called us at 5:00 a.m. with a weather update,... More

I've lived in Alaska 35 years and have always wanted this experience, but due to finances, waited for the right moment to take myself and my 14 year old son. We had out of state visitors and went as a group. The office is friendly and helpful and the pilot was tops. However, we had a 7 AM departure planned... More

I've watchd wildlife all over the world (I'm a travel journalist), and have been lucky enough to have many amazing wildlife encounters. But my stay at Hallo Bay really did surpass my expectations - especially having a huge alpha female flop down and rest just 12-15 feet away from us. Simyra was a terrific guide; authorative, calm, professional but fun.... More

This was the highlight of our trip! From the professional and courteous staff all the way to the experience itself in almost every detail this was a first class expedition. It was like living reality TV or experiencing what you only thought professionals could experience. This needs to be your number one event or if you can only pick one... More

We recently traveled to Homer, AK and we took the half day bear viewing tour. Simply amazing. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and we loved our pilot. It was a little overcast that day, but the views were astounding and breathtaking. We landed and quickly saw a lovely family of bears and our guide knew them well and... More

This is a great company to work with to view bears. You didn't have to leave a huge deposit in order to book your reservation. I would recommend to book well in advance though because things do fill up fast. Our pilot Trent was great. Ther was a problem with winds (Mother Nature's fault) so we couldn't land in the... More

Took the time to fly over the Cook Inlet to Hallo Bay, Katmai National Park to see if we could see some bears in the wild. We were extremely lucky to fly out on a blue sky day, and this kept our hopes high. Whilst landing on the beach, we flew over several wild bears which got us very excited.... More

We went on this trip in July-August 2011. I researched from months before we booked with Hallo Bay. We wanted to see bears, but not be with 150 other humans doing it and it seemed like we would be immersed in wilderness. We were right! We flew out (and I wish I could remember his name, but he used to... More
