There's not better village in Alaska than Haines. My wife and I moved here 2 years ago (actually to the Yukon) and we've been from Skagway and Haines, to Juneau, to Anchorage, Tok, Chicken, Valdez, Fairbanks etc... by far our fav is Haines. and BY FAR our fav store is Alaska Rods. For the Fudge, souvineers, affordable rain gear, Nick... More

Stopped into Alaska Rod's to look at the knives and what we found was so much more. Rod is quite a guy and we enjoyed talking to him. The knives he makes are beautiful and a true work of art. Along with the knives he makes wine bottle stoppers with corkscrews and pens. The wood is unique and the handcraft... More

I continue to be amazed at the delicious flavors of fudge that is made at Alaska Rod's downtown shop in Haines, Alaska. Made fresh every day and many different varieties to choose from. My particular favorite is "Moose Drool" which is a combination of chocolate fudge, marshmallows, peanut butter fudge and drooled with caramel. Soooooo goood! Thanks, Rod, for such... More

Crazy funky store filled with everything you can imagine. The handmade knives are amazing. Truly functional works of art. The homemade fudge delectable and the healing salves/lip balms are amazing. One of them helped my sunburn fade remarkably! Run by friendly people who take the time to visit with and help the person in front of them. Don't think of... More

Locally owned, they carry mostly products made locally and in Alaska. Rod is quite a character; he once slapped a black bear in the face. Ask his wife to tell you the story. She makes great fudge and he makes some beautiful knives.

What a refreshing surprise to find a shop that is not full of imported products........The merchandise is crafted by over 20 different local artists, some also work shifts in the store and are available to answer your questions.......Prices range from the lower end note cards with pictures of the Haines locale to more expensive carved birch bowls, specialty inlaid wood...
