Description: If coming from Skagway your journey begins with a short walk from the pier...
If coming from Skagway your journey begins with a short walk from the pier where you'll board a high-speed ferry for a 45-minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Enjoy spectacular views and informative commentary from your guide on the wildlife, geology, and beautiful landscape. Watch for whales along the way, as you glide past breathtaking glaciers and cascading waterfalls. Upon arrival in Haines, enjoy a tour of historic Fort Seward before heading to your paddling destination at Chilkoot Lake. This incredible location is home to all five species of Pacific salmon, numerous bald eagles, waterfowl and one of the highest concentrations of brown bears in southeast Alaska! You will be outfitted in the necessary equipment, receive a water-safety briefing, a thorough introduction to kayaking, and then start out onto the water. No previous experience is necessary and the expert guides will quickly make everyone at ease in the kayaks. The triple kayaks are very stable, spacious, and make excellent viewing platforms. Everyone will enjoy the excitement of kayaking in the midst of towering mountains and spectacular scenery. You may also be treated to outstanding bear viewing during the riverside drive to the lake and while paddling. Multiple spawning streams enter the lake and offer frequent bear and eagle sightings. You'll have 1.75 hours to explore by kayak. The location is chosen to provide the best kayaking and wildlife-viewing conditions and there is no better way to fully experience the beauty of Alaska!

This trip was worth it just to visit the quaint town of Haines. A great opportunity to escape the craziness of the cruise ship crowds in town. Our guides and driver were delightfully entertaining. Our instruction for the kayaks was great and the boats were stable. I didn't take my camera but should have (was concerned about overturning but it... More

It was a beautiful day that enhanced are experience. There were 6 in my family and none of us have ever kayaked. They made us feel comfortable with a couple of pointers. But it is not hard to kayak although we are talking about a calm lake. And yes you get a splash guard , but expect to get a... More

Ben and Nixie were great! It was 7 of us to begin with but one dropped out early due to height and fear of. One other because he started to feel noxious. That left us to five so we weren't rushed and was able to take in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness from a birds eye. They were extra cautious, we... More

This was a fantastic trip - we, too, booked it through Royal Caribbean. The tour guide picked us up in Skagway, and then we had a beautiful ferry ride to Haines. A short bus ride later, we were at the lake, getting prepared for nearly two hours of kayaking. Then a bus ride back to Haines for a nice bite... More

We were very dissapointed with this kyak excursion. First, it was raining so this obviously detracts from a kyak adventure. But beware that when booking a cruise excursion they are non-refundable rain or shine. OK...fine...we can deal with the rain and the tickets given by the cruise line said 'rain gear provided'. Great, with good rain gear it may be... More

My husband and I booked this excursion through Royal Caribbean. Our boat docked in Skagway and then we took a ferry to Haines, then a van to Chilkoot Lake (about 1.5 hours). The town of Haines is much more beautiful than Skagway (if you have the option of where to stop). Chilkoot Lake is stunningly beautiful, surrounded by mountains. We... More

My experience with Alaska Mountain Guides was amazing; the guides either grad students or hip 30 somethings who were transplants to Alaska and clearly loved the outdoors. They were well trained, friendly, professional, and knowlegeable. I would sign up for another Wilderness Kayak Adventure again, in a heartbeat, simply for the guides. Or, for that matter, ANY Alaskan Mountain Guide... More

Even though it rained most of the trip, Cedar and Katie did a great job with leading us. Very helpful with teaching us how to use the sea kayaks and very knowledgeable about the area wildlife. Saw numerous eagles on the beautiful lake, then a grizzly and an eagle snatching a salmon from the river on the way back!! Ended... More

The day that we arrived for our trip, seas were rough and weather was poor. Our AMG guide, Leslie, was incredibly flexible and accommodating. She made sure that we got the trip for which we had traveled so far, despite uncooperative weather. She worked hard to show us an amazing time from the second that we stepped off of the... More

My 9 year old is a big lover of wild life animals and he wanted to see the bald eagle, salmon fish and bears on this tour. The guide Dawn was very helpful. She gave us lots of information on this area. She took us to the spots where most wild lives could be found. There's a spot with lots... More
