Our tour host, Alaskan Tour Guides, recommended this side trip for my wife, our son and daughter-in-law, and me during our recent visit to Alaska. We met our guide, Justin, at the Portage station of the Alaska Railroad. After a short trip into the back country accessible only by rail, Justin took us to the shore of the lake at... More

I am not sure what others feel is a float trip but our trip was nothing as billed. No class 1 rapids, No Placer River Valley, no river. In fact, no moving unless under rowers' power. We went across a glacial lagoon. Stood on the glacier outflow, ate a caribou jerky and cheese stick and rowed back. The most silly... More

Although this is not a positive review I want to thank you for your thoughts regarding the tour you took with me at Chugach Adventures. As an Owner I can honestly say that when one of my guests choose to tip me I tip my guides with the money received. We are also one of the highest paying guide outfitters... More

A group of moms, kids, and dogs booked the Whistlestop Spencer Glacier campsite and were pleased to meet the guides from Chugach Adventures who were so kind and helpful. They were not paid to help us or asked to help us, they just did it and were very awesome. All of us were thrilled to have met such a great... More

I had never been on a float trip and was apprehensive about this part of our tour. It was totally delightful and I enjoyed the entire experience. Great help from the staff in getting your life preserver on, getting into the raft and getting out. We were fortunate in that the weather was perfect which added to the experience.

My hubby and I booked a rafting trip through the Alaska Railroad and had a blast! We took the train out to the Spencer Whistlestop where we met our guides, who escorted us out to the lake. We then were briefed on safety precautions and put on lifevests. The company provides rainboots and socks for everyone, if needed. They also... More

We caught the train in Portage, so it was a 20 minute train ride (if that). If you can catch the train in Anchorage or Seward, you will get a lot more scenery. Spencer Lake should not be missed if visiting Alaska. Rafting through a field of icebergs of all different shapes, sizes and colors was mind blowing. The float... More

We booked this trip through Alaska Rail and chose it for the opportunity to get "off the highways". We picked up the train at Portage around 1pm. A short train trip up the Placer Valley to Spencer whistlestop and you are taken by your guides on an old bus out to the Spencer Glacier Lake. Here you help yourselves to... More

this is an easy, easy day trip for visiting families and cautious river runners. You ride a train, float a river, see the glacier and just enjoy the outdoors--it's a beautiful journey with fun guides.

The trip to Spencer Glacier/Lake involves a short train ride (depending on which train station you start from), a short bus ride down to the lake, and then a rafting trip partially around the lake, but mostly just floating down the river. Before actually getting onto the rafts, a nice little lunch was provided. The lake area is a great... More
