The museum is very interesting, yes it could do with a facelift but the information is mostly in English as well as french and there some interesting stuff in there. The organised round the island tours seem to stop there for 30 minutes but it's worth talking a bit longer to wander round. Nice views from the coast here too More

We stopped at the Paul Gauguin Museum while on a Princess shore excursion. There are multiple buildings set out in a pattern that invites you to walk through them in a certain order. If you do, you are treated to a walk through Paul Gauguin's lifetime, beginning with his childhood. It is a lot of fun and a lot of... More

The building is interesting on its own and its set right by the beach. The museum tells Gauguin's life history and shows how his work developed. More

As stated in other reviews, the exhibits are dated and mostly in French, but adequate English to get most everything. Entrance fee is only 300 XPF (about $3.50) so no big deal. Gauguin had a big impact on Tahitian art. Do not spend more than 40 minutes here as there are other things to do. The museum store is poorly... More

Interesting collection of Gauguin life and work but old and not maintained. Museum should be completely renewed. More

Well. I was aware there are few originals in the museum and was utterly charmed anyway. Gardens are beautiful and the Japanese-style galleries are thoughtfully designed and laid out. The mosquitoes are devious and hiding in the building! Extremely enjoyable if expectations are set accordingly - this is not the Musée d'Orsay. More

As others have said, this museum is disappointing, as it contains no Gauguin paintings. The best thing about it is probably the view of Tahiti-iti from the beach. More

I was really excited to go to this museum but really let down to not only see no Gauguin paintings, but the museum it's self is pretty depressing & not like a real museum at all. My husband & I decided to do a cruise on Princess, which was nice but not what we'd hoped for. The 1st shore excursion... More

On most of the island tours a stop is scheduled for the museum. Its worth and hour or so there and it is interesting but no more then an hour is required. Its a bit of a pain if your on a large coach trip so try and use a small tour company. The museum is in a nice location... More

If you are expecting to see Gauguin's colourful pictures then this is not for you. I did not expect to see originals but what was there are prints which have mostly faded to a blueish colour and need replacing. I was very disappointed. Nice gardens and super photo opportunities on shoreline. Interesting Gauguin restaurant just along road. Dining room overlooks... More
