This museum offers different exhibitions of modern day Costa Rican artists. When I was there the exhibition was on Society and Media. Nicely done! Check ahead for exhibition as they change throughout the year.

A peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of San Jose. When I visited there was a wonderful exhibition of 5 Costa Rican sculptors. Sadly, my written Spanish is very poor and none of the signs were in English, but that didn´t detract from the wealth of talent. And the building itself, which used to be the airport many years...

It seemed that local art students were exhibiting. Hence a theme of "disconnection due to the internet" or something similar. It seemed there wasn't as much originality as I'd hoped. There was also a collage themed exhibit, which was more interesting to me, more original.
When deciding to come to this museum, it really is a matter of luck, you might find a couple of boring expositions or some grand installations and composite works of art. Mostly National, although it has housed some International expositors as well. Check what it's showing before you go, but you will hardly regret it.

Went on a friday afternoon. Had a lot of Tico artists, kinetic sculptures, photography, video art, painting and interactive art pieces. I`m gringo obvio, yet they let me pay the Tico price of 1000colones Has 4 floors, you can spend and hour or two there bathrooms are outside.

The old rum factory, now transformed into a Ministry of Culture, art galleries, an open auditorium for events, and a museum of Modern Art, with installations and contemporary art. The garden are full of tropical plants, and the old structures of the rum factory shows the pipes, pumps and tanks. A masterpiece of restoration.
