Poas volcano is famous for its big crater, one of the largest of the world. You can get there for a beautiful and very scenic road and have lunch in one of the multiple restaurants in the area. A must while in Costa Rica

Now that I have seen it I will be bringing family and friends here when they come to visit me here in CR. It is very easy to get to, best time to get here is early in the morning to beat the crowds, because this place is very popular. You get to look down inside the active Volcano Poas... More

The nearest volcan from the town. Great atmosphere and beautiful vegetation. The trail to the blue lake creates a good feeling. The park opens at 9 am so go early because of nebline.

We love Poas. When friends or family visit it is on the must see list. Very easy to get to, beautiful in its self, and the bonus is if you will get their in the morning when the park opens and before the clouds start moving in, you have a spectacular view of the surrounding area including a well defined... My friend and I took a combo tour, with a wonderful guide who I have to do a wee shout out to: Mario at Combo Tours. We made it to the crater just as the clouds came through so never got to see the infamous hole, but we had a lovely walk around the lagoon, and our knowledgeable guide did... More

On our 2nd day in Costa Rica, we drove to Poas to view the 2 volcanic craters. The main crater had erupted just 2 weeks before we got there and was still spewing sulfur gas. The 25,074 meter high climb was made more difficult for some by having to breath in the lingering fumes. The effort was well worth it... More

My friend and I joined the one day tour to coffee farm, Volcan poas and waterfall gardens. It was super nice and we were lucky that after few minutes the clouds went away and we had fantastic view of volcano. Really worth it! The waterfall gardens is always very pleasant and not far away.

Walking just 15 minutes from the visitor's center, the main crater supplies guests with a spectacular view, when there are no clouds. The clouds did try to part - but quickly moved back in. Around the huge main-crater is the beautifully blue-green colored Botos Lake. We made the long diligent climb and it was well worth it. Except for the... More

We saw the crater, but little wildlife on the way up and down. There is a steady stream of tourists on the trails, so that definitely impacts wildlife sightings If you have never seen one, then it would be enjoyable, but if you have seen one, ...
