My husband and son saw a play at the National Theater. It was a great experience. The theater was very nice and they would have enjoyed going to another performance, but with time constraints, it wasn't possible.

One of the few beautiful building in the city. Spent a lovely two hours in their stylish cafe, reading and watching people.

In a word, decadent. We visited this site while on a tour, so we had a guide to explain to us all that we were seeing in here. You will want to take pictures, but you must turn off your flash, so getting good photos is tricky. The entire interior is done in marble and gold trim. Get a tour... More

Concert begins at noon and is a great way to spend your lunchhour. The theater is a national landmark and wonderful experience to see and hear.

Teatro Nacional is one of the only indoor things worth seeing in Costa Rica...it's kind of a cool building with a lot of history but the concerts are what you want to go for, and the best value when it comes to that are the mid-day concerts that take place at 12:10 pm on Tuesdays. Beautiful and historic. A must visit. Interesting legacy. Art from Europe. The main floor can be raised and lowered depending on the production.

We took the public bus into San Jose, walked to the National Theater, and had an absolutely wonderful guide show us this incredibly beautiful building. Jeff was terrific and we were lucky enough to be the only ones in the group and so were able to ask lots of questions. This is a must do while in San Jose, and... More

I signed up for a tour at the national theater when visiting last summer in San Jose Costa Rica. I was expecting to go on the tour with a large group. However, when my allotted time arrived, I was the only one in my tour. That did not stop my tour guide from conducting a terrific to her of the... More

The National Theatre building is very beautiful, both inside and outside. We took a guided tour with a relatively small group and our guide was both personable and knowledgeable. The history of the building is fascinating and a bit troubling at the same time. The artwork, as well, is beautiful while at times reflecting a lack of knowledge of the... More

The National Theater is one of the finest offerings of Costa Rica. This was modeled after the Paris Opera House and has a Costa Rican themed ceiling mural is beautiful. The theater is designed so every citizen can afford to attend, with various seating alternatives available. This should not be missed!
