Our San Jose Walking Tour is a must during your visit to the capital! For years both locals and foreigners have forgotten what the capital has to offer. San Jose is a city full of history, architectural beauty, colorful gardens and it's citizens are recognized as friendly and happy people. This tour was first started in 2010 and it consists of a historical journey through the capital and aims to show a new side of the city very few people have seen. A more authentic side full of small details that define the culture of Costa Rica. Food and tourism go hand in hand. Costa Rica has thousands of flavors and ChepeCletas would like to invite you on a tour that can be seen, smelt and tasted. Join us to discover the Central Market, founded in 1880, it preserved the heart and essence of the Costa Rican popular culture. It is possible to find a great assortment of fruits and vegetables, meats, seafood, spices, ornaments, animals and even religious figures. It is known for its sodas (small informal restaurants) which are the oldest and most famous of the country for their food, traditions and personalized service. Many businesses have remained in the same family for up to four generations. Their owners show great pride in this legacy and have found the market to be like a second family. The Central Market is alive and is used by everyone. Visits to this place go far beyond a simple shopping experience; it's a real social experience.

I have been exploring San Jose an number of infinite times since the 1980's. While accompanying guests yesterday, I still managed to enjoy San Jose in another perspective. I was thrilled to realize how much the city has changed over recent years to become a delightful, more pedestrian friendly city. It is now one that I would recommend that visitors... More

ChepeCletas – So there I was: no chance of catching the city tours available and with 6 hrs. to spare before heading to the airport. Luckily GoVisitCostaRica (they who planned my trip) had connections with the college-student based ChepeCletas (“Chepe” nickname in Spanish for José; “Cletas” abbreviation for “bicicletas”, bycicles). This dynamic, well-informed and reliable group of students *luv* San... More

This was an excellent experience. I have been visiting San José for years, but the ChepeCletas guides included stops I didn't know, alongside longtime favorites. The guides are knowledgeable, welcoming, and friendly, and they created an experience that was enjoyable, safe, and educational. Though they change destinations each time, on the evening that I went, stops included historical locations and... More

San Jose doesn't seem to be a very interesting city, until you meet the costarrican chepecletas guides. They will take you to the capital streets and show you in a very entretaining way, all the interesting stories that "Chepe" (San José) has to offer. They have walking and bike tours. Don't miss them!

An incredible experience that you will not forget. San José is not always a first destination for tourists and visitors from around the country, but before you go to the beach or the nearest volacno...your first stop must be the city, but from ChepeCleta's perspective. The collaborative tour brings guides and walkers together into a social experience, full of history,... More

I have been fortunate enough to participate in many of the ChepeCletas events, including their city tours and I have to say there isn't a better way to discover a city but through the eyes of local residents who love their town and their traditions above everything else. The ChepeCletas guys make their tours fun by interacting with the participants... More
