We offer adventure activities that take advantage of Costa Rica’s unique variety of environments: whitewater rafting, multisport activities that feature kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and cycling, family adventures, cultural encounters, nature and wildlife tours, and “volun-tourism”. Our mission, to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values, has not changed since we began in 1985. Rios Tropicales was established by native Central Americans, El Salvadorian Rafael Gallo and Costa Rican Fernando Esquivel, whose deep connection with the region and culture are apparent in every aspect of the company. « less

Best part of our trip to costa rica. All the guides are very knowledgable and safety is #1 for them. If you are not very strong or weak I would not recommend. it is 4 hours of rafting and your arms with be sore BUT totally worth it. Beautiful scenery the entire time.

We spent 2 days with the Rios Tropicales team and had a great experience from start to finish! The rafting on day one (with Alex and Leo as guides) was great fun, followed by a superb dinner at the lodge - beautiful accommodation in a stunning location! On our second day (after an excellent breakfast!!) we did some zip wiring,... More

Just been on a 2 day raft tour with these guys and they are amazing! The lodge was beautiful - clean, comfortable and with fantastic scenery. The guides were lovely and excellent cooks! They looked after us so well and the rafting itself was the most fun I have had in a very long time. Everything was very well organised... More

Our family took the 3-night Rio Pacuari trip with Rios Tropicales. The rafting was classfied as Class III-IV. Even though it had been raining, most of the rafting we did on two different days had almost all Class III white water. Our young grandson who was an experienced rafter was disappointed. The experience of the guides was very good and... More

We spent two days rafting the RIo Pacuare, what a trip! The guides were excellent and certainly knew what they were doing. They were accomodating, made the reip fun. They even cooked dinner at the lodge on the way. The lodge itself is such an experience. It is rustic and a little damp.. but it is in the jungle, with... More

My fiance and I took the one day river rafting tour down the Pacuare river and had such a blast with the best guide, Otto!!! Since we went with only two people, we were paired with four others who were awesome. We had breakfast prior to leaving for our trip and had lunch upon our return. We did get hungry... More

We loved the rafting trip and our guide Kevin was awesome. It's a first class rafing experience and our family of four loved it. That being said, here are a few downwsides: It's a long drive to raft. We were picked up at 5:30 am at our hotel. We were the first pickup and the last to be dropped off.... More

We had the best time ever rafting back in July with our amazing raft guides Andres and Mae. They were so nice to us and helped us out so much. Once we got back to the river lodge, we were able to help prepare meals with orellio the photographer (not sure how to spell his name) and Juan Carlos the... More

We took the 2 day overnight Pacuare trip and highly recommend it! Yes, they pick you up early from your hotel and we had lots of traffic in San Jose on our return trip so the term 'river time' applies, but it is sooooo worth it! The adventure starts on the tractor ride down to the river, but I am... More
