We offer adventure activities that take advantage of Costa Rica’s unique variety of environments: whitewater rafting, multisport activities that feature kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and cycling, family adventures, cultural encounters, nature and wildlife tours, and “volun-tourism”. Our mission, to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values, has not changed since we began in 1985. Rios Tropicales was established by native Central Americans, El Salvadorian Rafael Gallo and Costa Rican Fernando Esquivel, whose deep connection with the region and culture are apparent in every aspect of the company. « less

Day rafting on the River Paquare..... great day..... fairly long drive from San Jose which wasn't well planned as we had to return to San Jose only to go back on the same road to get to Tortuguero the next day.... but this aside, it was a well organised day. The rafting was superb, we all enjoyed it, although you... More

The Rios Tropicales White water adventure on the Pacuare River was awesome! I want to start off by saying this was our first waking morning in San Jose and Rios Tropicales picked us up at 6:30 AM. What a way to start your second day. This company is very professional… or we just got lucky with having Kevin as our... More

A few different rivers to choose from and depending on the time of the year, the same river can be so different. Just be sure to tell them the experience level and they will match you up. Don't be afraid to start easy as even those tours can be the most rewarding. Rios Tropicales has plenty of experience with tourism... More

This was one of the best white water rafting trips we’ve ever been on. The rapids were exhilarating! Our guide, Diego grew up doing water sports on the river and was very knowledgable and good spirited, making the trip down the river that much more fun. At the end of the rafting trip, we had a chance to eat a... More

We went on the 3-day, 2-night tour and it was absolutely amazing. Stunning landscape, fun activities and the most friendly guides! (Thanks to Leo and Luis on this part :) ) Found some tranquility at rainforest lodge surrounded by waterfalls and butterflies. The rafting itself was a lot of fun though I had to be careful as I had had... More

Very professional. We rafted the upper Pacuare River for a day trip. The river is beautiful, rapids fun, and great service. Breakfast and lunch were included in our trip as well as a free shuttle pick up from San Jose. Our guide was knowledgeable and made the trip excellent. Highly recommend going with this company.

I've been white water rafting twice before this experience, and thought this was the best white water rafting experience so far. The scenery was stunningly beautiful, the rapids were fun, and we rafted for about 4 hours. Excellent value for the money. The excursion was very safe, and guides were very knowledgeable and knew their stuff. Our guide was Matias... More

We have been white water rafting a couple times before but this was the best one by far. There was rapid after rapid and each more exciting than the one before. Our group had 2 rafts with 2 guides and one in a kayak. My family was in one raft and since we had some experience the guide took us... More

We finally saw the bird that it is everywhere in souvenirs: The Toucan or Tucan. Very nice experience with our guide Mauricio. We felt safe all the time. Don't miss this rafting experience at Sarapiqui river. Full of emotions and beautiful surroundings. Lunch is included. Nice natural juices. I suggest to let people choose what to eat. They give you... More

My wife and I had never white water rafted before but after this trip we will definitely be looking to do it again. The water is very clean and clear. Our guide said that if he forgets to bring water he will just drink it right out of the river. He was very knowledgeable about the river and wildlife. We... More
