We offer adventure activities that take advantage of Costa Rica’s unique variety of environments: whitewater rafting, multisport activities that feature kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and cycling, family adventures, cultural encounters, nature and wildlife tours, and “volun-tourism”. Our mission, to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values, has not changed since we began in 1985. Rios Tropicales was established by native Central Americans, El Salvadorian Rafael Gallo and Costa Rican Fernando Esquivel, whose deep connection with the region and culture are apparent in every aspect of the company. « less

We took the night float and it was an amazing experience. Spooky but exhilarating to see and, mainly, hear the jungle come to life! The pit stop at the farm afterwards just topped it all off! Thoroughly recommend, especially as the guides were great.

Rafting on the Pacuare River with Rios Tropicales was the highlight of my Costa Rican holiday! The guides were great, they cooked superbly, and ensured we had a safe but fun experience. We stayed in the Rios Tropicales lodge on the Pacuare River and it was magical! Our room looked straight out onto the rapids, dinner was eaten overlooking the... More

My son and I recently returned from Costa Rica where we had a blast rafting down the Sarapiqui River out of La Fortuna (Class IV). The guides were amazing and although I fell out on one rapid, I was back in the boat in a matter of seconds..thanks to Rodlando. They also were kind enough to stop the bus 4... More

Zabe6 reviewed Rios Tropicales exactly as I do! Change the name of the guide from Fernando to the knowledgeable, funny and friendly Andres B. and my experience was nearly identical. Everything about the time with the Rios Tropicales tour team exceeded my expectations!

The guides and supporting staff are all very friendly and helpful. The river is beautiful and lots of fun to run. The two day overnight at the lodge would be great, but the house next door got a new dog that either plays too aggressively (bites) or barks incessantly when penned. Not exactly the jungle experience I was looking for;... More

Rio Tropicales is definitely the best company to choose for white water rafting down the Pacuare! I couldn't imagine another company coming close to this one. We were picked up right on time at our hotel in San Jose and taken to the headquarters where we were served a delicious buffet breakfast complete with both traditional Costa Rican breakfast as...
