Rios Tropicales is an eco-adventure company that operates throughout Costa Rica. We offer adventure activities that take advantage of Costa Rica’s unique variety of environments: whitewater rafting, multisport activities that feature kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and cycling, family adventures, cultural encounters, nature and wildlife tours, and “volun-tourism”. Our mission, to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values, has not changed since we began in 1985. Rios Tropicales was established by native Central Americans, El Salvadorian Rafael Gallo and Costa Rican Fernando Esquivel, whose deep connection with the region and culture are apparent in every aspect of the company.

This is a pleasant well organised trip with good staff and a good company but if you are expecting big rapids you probably won't get them. The day we went the river was fairly tame. Not sure how often it is like this but if you have rafted elsewhere you may be a bit disappointed.

Thanks for your review John , I assume you went to the Pacuare River , which is a high gradient technical river, not necessarily what's known as big water , like the Zambezi, or Grand Canyon...or were you on a different river??? More

The white water rafting was $99 each, which sounds expensive, but you get your money's worth. We were picked up from our hotel in San Jose, and taken to the Rios Tropicales operations centre, where we were provided with a large typical Costa Rican breakfast, and fresh fruit juice. We then headed on bus to the "... River", which is... More

The trip on the pacuare river was one my wife and I had been wanting to do since we booked the trip over a year ago.....and it was fantastic. From start to finish the Rios Tropicale crew exceeded expectation. We were picked up promptly from our hotel the morning of the expedition and 'Ray' or ranaldo explained what was going... More

We rafted the Pacuare river with Rio Tropicales in May and had an awesome time. The equipment was great and safety was very high in the agenda. Our guide was Kevin - he was great, was a good laugh and made us all feel very safe. The river is excellent with nice gentle bits as well as some fabulous rapids... More

Rafting the Pacuare River was the highlight of our Costa Rica vacation. Our guide picked us up from our hotel in San Jose on time. During the drive to the river, Rey provided us with a safety orientation for rafting. I was glad that Rey was our raft guide (they split the group into two - an English-speaking raft and... More

This company is awesome. I am a repeat customer having done this trip before in 2006. The guides are great - always going above and beyond to make the trip more enjoyable. The rafting itself is fabulous, but I feel that the day rafters miss the best part. Spending the night in a cabin, on the river, next to a... More

I was thoroughly impressed with this company overall. They picked us up around 3 hours away from the location which was incredible. The bus was clean and had AC and was very comfortable. Then when we arrived at the Operations Center we were met with a great breakfast and a very thorough explanation of what the river would be like... More

Rios Tropicales could not have been better to work with. The weather forced my trip to be cancelled, but they worked with me to get me on the river before I headed home. I worked as a guide so I when I tell you their guides know their stuff and make it fun it is genuine praise. The river is... More

Rios Tropicales cancelled our trip the night before we were supposed to depart. We landed in San Jose to find an email that the trip had been cancelled and were very frustrated, as we needed to scramble to re-arrange our trip. The trip was cancelled due to high water levels, which is completely understandable. However, Rios Tropicales made no effort... More
