The only place I can honestly recommend in the city. It is more than beautiful, it is long lasting quality that will beautify any corner of your house or office. The process followed to create each piece takes years to guarantee the quality of the product you will purchase. No need to go anywhere else.

I covet almost everything in that showroom. I've been in museums with fewer articles of beauty. I've visited the Woodworks three or four times. Twice I've taken the tour of the workshop where I learned about wood and how Biesanz works with nature rather than against it to make items fit as gifts for world leaders. The grounds between the... We visited Biesanz's workshops a few years ago and our only regret is to not have written this review sooner. If you are in San Jose and have an interest in art or woodworking, do make the time for a visit. His work is of extraordinary quality and this is one of the most precious souvenirs you can bring home... More

If you appreciate high end wood craft, this place is worth seeking out. We were fortunate to meet Barry and found him to be an affable and gracious host. Even if Barry is out you will be welcomed by a friendly staff person who will give an informative tour of the workshop and the small nature preserve out back. And... More

The tour is free and you get to see how this marvelous artist and the artesans that work with him do a great job with wood. I liked the service, the information and the place. I think this is a place you should see when you come to Costa Rica. Also, if you want to buy a piece, there are... More

Many have great skills but few have the skill and sensitivity of Barry Biesanz. His work not only shows his high level of skill but also his unique ability to use the character of the piece of wood itself. His gallery is filled with delicate and shapely bowls, beautiful boxes and, interesting pieces of furniture. Anyone who appreciates craftsmanship and... More

Emailed them to make sure they were open and see what kind of bowls they had in stock. Got a quick reply with many photos. I spent over an hour at the shop. So many beautiful pieces. I bought a few boxes and other items. Prices are very reasonable given the quality. You can get nice pieces for under $100... More

How often do you get the opportunity for a personal, thorough tour of a world-class woodworks and botanical garden? For those who love fine wood art, it is an invaluable FREE experience to visit Barry Biesanz's gallery and workshop. We especially appreciated the time Minor took to explain the long process that leads to the finished piece. My only regret... More

Amazing artwork. Superb craftsmanship. Barry has extensive knowledge of plants, trees, and the environment. I found him to a fascinating person with a passion for his art. Minor, shop administrator was very helpful and spent a lot of time giving a tour of plant life.
