Just got back from Costa Rica and fishing INSHORE with Capt Johnny. I feel compelled to share my experiences. I fished Thurs (Aug 7) this week. Thursday I went out with Father in law, and two sisters. Now, before we left for Costa Rica I did my research and July-October are the slowest months- that's not a fishing charter's responsibility.... More

My girlfriend and I did a full day offshore fishing trip on August 9th. All we wanted to do was catch sailfish. We went out on the 32ft Stress Reeliever with Capt. Mike and Johnny. We went out about an hour and half before we started trolling. We caught a Mahi Mahi right away and lost another. Then had a... More

You get what you pay for but 500 $ was the best deal. We go out 400 YARDS from the marina there is 4 poles, 3 for fishing and one for bait, Johnny (Captain) says only two rods out is best. There are 4 of us???? two hours we caught nothing. Move to some rocks in the water which were... More

Inshore fishing was very slow, many boats out, nobody catching fish. ALL the other Quepos Boats stayed inshore doing circles for nothing, Johnny called me and without charging more, we took these guys to an offshore trip where they caught 40 fish. We didn't make any money on this trip as we took these guys 13 miles offshore to make... More

The roosterfish boat apparently broke just before we showed up at the dock. We were set up with another captain by Johnny and caught one small spanish mackerel in seven hours of fishing. After trying to catch bait with very little luck we tried bottom fishing, but just caught very small trigger fish. Living on Padre Island you catch these... More

Sorry guys. We have a Suzuki DF175 4 storke outboard on our inshore boat, and in the morning before the trip, while we were fueling up, the motor started making noise. We don't go out with motor problems, so since I knew these guys were already coming, I found them another boat. The problem is we have really nice equipment... More

Excellent trip. Spent two days deep sea fishing targetting different species. On day one we targeted bill fish and dorado. We hooked up and landed two nice sail fish, hooked up and broke off a Marlin and hooked up and landed a nice dorado. During this time of the year locals report that fishing is generally "slow". I have to... More

Went out today 7/21 with John W. and Alex. First I'll write a small piece about the equipment. The boat is an older (restored) wooden boat that is really cool. It doesn't create a ton of prop wash when trolling which the captain believes enhances bait presentation. As a boat owner and tournament fisherman I agree with this, especially when... More

We fished with Captain John and Alex on 7/11. I was a little concerned since I made arrangements for a half day bottom fishing for meat and complete the day searching for a sailfish. We were immediately put on the spot once on the boat to choose either/or and strongly encouraged to go for sailfish and marlin. I can't say... More

Dang, sometimes the sailfishing and the bottom fishing are far apart, and this particular day, there was too much distance between the bottom and the billfish to be able to do both in the same day. 90 percent of the days the fishing is closer together and we can do both. Glad we could get you on the fish, I... More

The day started out early at 7 AM on the docks of Quepos. My buddy and I were heading out for some deep sea fishing, which I've never done before. I was looking forward to catching some fish and hopefully having dinner in Manuel Antonio prepared from our catch for the next couple of days. We were met at the... More

nothing like traveling thousands of miles and spending thousands of dollars to get skunked. Went offshore for a full day, hooked 1 sail, which "broke" a #100 leader. Sounded fishey to me. Got to watch all the boats around us hooked up to blue marlins but our boat never got it done. First mate, Alec, was not very friendly and... More

Sorry, Alex gets really upset when they lose. Don't know, it was a weird week offshore, it was Marlin or nothing. We released 5 big Marlin is 7 trips that week. Usually there are tons of sailfish and Mahi around so that when the Marlin don't bite, we still catch fish. Alex and John W have been skunked 4 times... More

The greatest fishing trip of my life!! I love to fish (mostly freshwater with a little saltwater in South Carolina). Six of us set out with Captain Johnny on what I expected to be a good time with a "fish on" every hour or so. WRONG!!!! After cruising out for about 45 minutes or so, Johnny said, "drop here". I...
