This was a solid 4 hour trip, half paddling up a river into the mangroves S of Puerto Jimenez, then crossing over to the Pacific for an open ocean paddle back to the bay. The mangrove swamp is impressive, rooty and with lots of birds, small crabs (hard to spot, they're very shy), few bugs in early January. At the... More

We had an awesome experience kayaking through the mangrove channels in the Gulfo Dulce next to Puerto Jiménez. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the different varieties of mangroves and the ecology of the mangrove biosystem. A highlight was stopping at a deserted beach to snack on fresh pineapple and coconut water. Highly recommend this outfitter if you're looking for... More

This tour was arranged for my wife and I by Lapa Rios resort. Our main objective was to see some wildlife in an unusual setting and it did not disappoint! Alberto and Donnie were our guides. They were friendly, patient, professional and easy to understand. The kayaks were in great shape and the weather was great. The tour was leisurely... More

We did two tours with Aventuras Tropicales on two separate days: a dolphin tour + snorkeling and the next morning a kayak mangrove tour. The dolphin tour we did with Alberto, who is only 19 years old but already knows so much about the animals and their habitats. After only 40 minutes he spotted two dolphins and the following hour,... We had a morning tour of the mangrove forest with Alberto Jr on kayaks. He was very enthusiastic about sharing his love of the area with us and was an absolute gun when it came to remembering each animal we saw and sharing some information about these. A thoroughly entertaining tour and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

We did the tour with our two sons of four and seven years old. We were afraid that they would be bored after a while but they enjoyed their selves the complete four hours! We saw a kaiman, a lot of birds and some lizards. But for us to paddle through the mangrove was already special enough. After the mangrove... More

A warning to all travelers: Do not give your credit card to Alberto. I would not trust Alberto or Aventuras Tropicales. I do not recommend giving them your business. I've been to over 30 countries and worked with many tour operators, but this is the first provider who has been extremely difficult and downright frustrating to work with. After communicating... If you've got the energy, the day-long kayak trip is fully worth it. It's 8km up the golfo, where you take time to explore a reef, get lunch, then 8km back, where you also explore the mangrove forest. Like many others, Alberto was our guide. He is terrific. Not only does he have an exhaustive knowledge of the local environment,... More

We started this lovely day with dolphins swimming about 30 feet from our kayaks before entering the lush mangroves. Alberto was our guide and was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna as well as birds. His English is excellent and demeanor friendly and helpful. The fresh coconut and pineapple were such a nice touch. Definitely do this if you... More
