We decided to go here on our honeymoon and took a guided tour around the frogs, butterflies and insects. Our guide Daniel was brilliant. Very knowledgeable, able to spot all the frogs which we would have had no chance of seeing on our own and even gifted us some aloe leaves for our sore red skin. The aloe worked wonders... More

Good way to see all the butterflies and frogs. If you buy a ticket in the morning or afternoon, you can come back with the same ticket during the evening to see the night frogs. Daniel is a well knowledged and enthusiastic guide.

It feels a little like a tourist trap, and it's overpriced, but we did enjoy seeing the frogs and butterflies. We maybe enjoyed the butterfly rooms more than the frogs -- our guide was very informative, and we loved seeing the beautiful chrysalises as well as the butterflies. The frog area is a bunch of terrariums behind glass that you... More

Might be worth it more if you have time to do both tours. Then it would've made the fee worth it. It is true that you may not see stuff in the wild so this is a good option. You should go outside though too!

We enjoyed the frog tour. The guide was able to find all but one type during the day and insisted we return for the evening. Definitely do so as it was worth it. Most were more active and you could remember where to find them. Pricey? Everything is Costa Rica is expensive now.

If you won't be able to see the frogs in real, this is a nice option. Your entrance fee allows for two visits: one during the day and one during the night. We did our second visit in the early morning, and the cleaning guy pointed us to some well-hidden frogs. In general, I think the personnel was friendly, and... More

We visited the frog exhibition so called Ranario in Santa Elena. Our very professional guide was named Daniel and know a lot about ecology of frogs and as biologist of Switzerland I recommend him warmly

I didn't really find this experience worthwhile. I paid for the frog and butterflies. The frog section was similar to what you would see in a zoo- a big case with one or two hidden frogs. There were several cases, but there were also many empty ones. The tour was guided, however the guide didn't tell very much information, it... More

Fun to see the frogs up close and personal. we went at night so it was a bit more intriguing and the frogs were more at play. I thought a bit expensive for a walk around to see frogs in terrariums but interesting to say the least. $17/person for an hour tour.

I would recommend taking the tour during the day. We took the night tour because we were told the frogs would be more active. But at night, they're quite hard to spot and people aren't allowed to use flash on their cameras to take pictures. It's a bit awkward because the guide finds the frogs with a flashlight, and does...
