You can see the San Luis Waterfall from two places. The main San Luis road, which is very steep and kind of risky. Accidents had happened there and also at the waterfall and that's why it is not allowed to go there anymore. The other place is the Observation Deck at Ficus Trails. With a pair of binoculars or a... The waterfall belongs to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve but to get to it you must cross a farm. The owners of the farm have been charging visitors for years so they can go to the river and walk to the waterfall. It is a beautiful waterfall but the trail is not in good shape and most of the... There are 4 waterfalls, the tallest is 247 feet, and the hike to all of them is a bit arduous. What this means is that you will have major privacy [my husband and \i saw no one else] and will have wonderful views, colorful flowers, many butterflies, and, of course, the falls. Well worth doing!!

the trail it's not very well maintened but it's one of my favorite in Monteverde. I had the possibility to see a lot of birds along the trail. very hard the last part to reach the waterfall..not for everyone. if you don't know the trail ask for a guide.

It's so unfair, the access to the San Luis Waterfall has been closes recently because of an accident that nobody could prevent. It's a shame that Giovanni and his family cannot guide to this wonderful place. But please if you go to Monteverde take time to go to his farm and take a great lunch cooked by his wife. the... More

We really wanted to hike to the waterfall and we were misinformed by hotel staff that it was open. After a long drive on terrible roads (and getting lost), we ended up paying to walk around a private property located near the waterfall. It was pretty and there was a swimming hole on the property (too cold to go in),... More

This was truly one of those places that will stay in your memory forever... This is the 31st country and about 25th nature trail i visited globally so i think my review might be helpful...., First of all this waterfall is OPEN FOR PUBLIC AND SAFE!!!! We did hear about an accident last year, but the 55 (fifty-five) years of... More

We thought the hike was at about the limit of our abilities, but then 2 of us are in our late 60's. One of the prettiest of the many waterfalls we've seen over the years and we were very glad we went.

My wife and I visited the waterfall early on a Sunday morning, I think we actually woke the owner up accidentally but she was extremely helpful. As a heads up to people... this is not a high flying, American oriented, English speaking tourist attraction with all of the "safety features" that you would expect from a lawsuit-wary North American company....
