This was truly one of those places that will stay in your memory forever... This is the 31st country and about 25th nature trail i visited globally so i think my review might be helpful...., First of all this waterfall is OPEN FOR PUBLIC AND SAFE!!!! We did hear about an accident last year, but the 55 (fifty-five) years of... More

We thought the hike was at about the limit of our abilities, but then 2 of us are in our late 60's. One of the prettiest of the many waterfalls we've seen over the years and we were very glad we went.

My wife and I visited the waterfall early on a Sunday morning, I think we actually woke the owner up accidentally but she was extremely helpful. As a heads up to people... this is not a high flying, American oriented, English speaking tourist attraction with all of the "safety features" that you would expect from a lawsuit-wary North American company.... Due to an accident this past year, the trail to the waterfall is no longer open all the way. Therefore the name "waterfall" has been dropped and has been changed to Rancho Rio San Luis to reflect this. However the area is still worth a visit for the spectacular scenery and gracious host family. If you don't have a car... More

It's a waterfall…it's not going to change your life. That said, the 455 steps are much easier than you think they'll be and it's well worth the walk and the entrance fee. Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel so you can swim at the bottom.

We asked about the waterfall because we too found it a cool thing to maybe do. We were told that it had been closed because of an accident mid this year (2013). A rock had fallen on a person there, we were told that it would not re-open for several years.

We got to the waterfall by horseback. It's a bit of a trek on foot to get there but well worth it. The water is cold (or refreshing) depending on what you're used to. Bring water shoes as there are rocks that can be a bit sharp. Take a swim near the waterfall and make sure you bring your camera.... More

This off the beaten path waterfall was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. After an interesting drive to get there we were treated to very nice mountain stream hike. The climax was reaching the end and finding the most amazing waterfall!

Just got back from CR. The waterfall is closed. Hotel staff was pretty sure that it is closed for good and they felt that is was very dangerous.

We've been told that recently the San Luis waterfall has been closed for the tourists. Is this true? Will it be reopened during the high season?
