My wife and I typically are not “tour takers” but decided to give this a try and are very happy that we did. We had a beautiful day for the tour and learned about sugar cane, coffee and cocoa production. Our guide was very informative and good-natured and provided the right amount of insight while also keeping the tour moving... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. We learned how to pick the best coffee beans, saw how to process them through roasting, learned about chocolate, learned about sugar cane and even made our own candy. We learned a lot and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and made it fun. Its a good way to spend a couple of hours learning... More

This tour exceeded my expectations. I knew nothing about the process of coffee, sugar or cocoa, so I learned a ton. There were plenty of samples and everyone was friendly. A pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

I loved this tour. We were interested in doing a coffee tour in Costa Rica as we had done a coffee tour before in Ecuador and enjoyed it a lot. I loved that this tour also offered the sugar cane and the chocolate. You can taste each product fresh off the tree - raw and unprocessed and then taste some... More

This is probably one of the most interesting tours I have ever taken. We saw the stages of coffee production, brown sugar production and chocolate making, all beginning at the plant stage, and with plenty of samples throughout. The ground are beautiful and the guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. A really worthwhile afternoon!

We wanted to be able to take both a coffee and chocolate tour and didn't have much time so we booked El Trapiche. It was a great way to get an overview of the big three, coffee, sugar cane, and chocolate and to see how each process works from start to finish. The cool thing is you not only get... More

In about 2 hours you can get a sense of how coffee, chocolate and suger is produced by seeing and experiencing every single step on you own. They pick you up and bring you home, so just add another 20-30 min before and after the tour. They live from coffee and just have startet to grow cacao, so you won't... More

El Trapiche provides, in a short amount of time, a good overview of three agricultural products found in Costa Rica - sugar cane, coffee, and chocolate. However, the scale of the operation is quite small, and by their own admission both sugar cane and chocolate grow better in the lowlands, which leaves the impression that they are mostly there for... Got picked up from my hotel and joined a great group for this tour. Coffee was light and delicious, the chocolate a heady cocoa fix and the sugar sweets we made at the end were great soveigners

We took this tour the day before yesterday and really enjoyed it. Having witnessed the sugar cane haverst on a trip out from Arenal it was good to have the traditional methods explained to us. The best part of the tour was the explanations of both the coffee and sugar production processes and how the industrial production methods work. For... More
