A very well guided tour around a small, family run coffee plant. Very interesting and nicely presented, with a possibility of having a go in making your own sugar lump. Coffee and a snack at the end of the tour very tasty. The chocolates I bought in the souvenir shop a bit disappointing (bland) though! In general, one of the... More

An interesting tour / experience but not actually around a real plantation / farm; that was close though. This was a tour around a self-designed area for a tour; we went around in a group of about 12 and it took about 2-3hrs. We all bought coffee at the end which has already been drunk by my colleagues at work;... More

We had fun at the El Trapiche Tour. Coffee, sugar and chocolate all in one. What's not to love. We were a bit disappointed that they didn't have any chocolate to sample, but we brought home sugar that we helped process and bought 6 bags of coffee. Our tour guide seemed very knowledgeable and the owner's family were all very... More

A great tour to do if you want to know about the production of coffee, sugar cane and cocoa (basically what Costa Rica is known for). Our guide (Oliver) was very knowledgeable and engaging. You'll get to partake in different stages of production and taste a few things (sugar cane, freshly made brown sugar, local sugar cane liquor called guaro,... More

One of a number of operations in this area that will demonstrate the art of sugar cane production, coffee production and / or cocoa production. We actually experienced no others in the area so cannot comment on the competition. Please see other review for Doka Coffee Plantation in the Central Highlands on the TA site. El Trapiche (Sugar Mill) provides... More

It was a wonderful tour. The plantage is owned and run by the same family since the beginning. Or guide, Diego or Diogo (sorry for that), was the third or fourth generation running the business. He was very sweet, he spoke really good English amd it was to liste to him. We learned a lot and were able to taste... More

Guide Diego was great - a family member and very informative. Family run business for years - opportunity to sample their products.

This was actually my second visit to El Trapiche and I still had a fantastic time! If you stay at a local Santa Elena hotel, they will pick you up for the tour. Learn about coffee, sugarcane, and cacao processing in this unique, interactive tour. Plenty of opportunities for great photos. Make molasses, pick some coffee cherries, taste fresh chocolate...
