This was one of our favorite experiences in Costa Rica. You tour the working coffee and sugarcane farm which has been in the family for four generations, the chocolate is a new (yummy, welcome) addition. The property is amazing, you can see the Pacific Coast and the Nicoya Peninsula from the top of the mountains. The tour guide was awesome,... More

On first inspection, not a cheap tour but well worth it. We were booked on to the tour by our travel agent and collected from our hotel by Diego, one of the family which runs the plantation and his enthusiasm, knowledge and humour set us up for over an experience lasting more than 3 hours. We saw the stages of... More

This is advertised as a coffee, sugar and chocolate tour. At that particular location in Monteverde they don't really mass produce chocolate there, but don't let that keep you away. It was raining for our tour (pretty much expected since you are in the rain forest) and the places was prepared with ponchos for those who wanted and/or needed them.... More

This was one of my favorite tours on our Costa Rican adventure. They really went into detail on all aspects of coffee, sugar, and chocolate production. We got to try the seeds in every stage of creating the end product (straight of the plant to final product). We felt as though we really knew the process and had an authentic... More

This tour was very well thought out and gave a great insight into how coffee is grown, processed and roasted. An added bonus is the sugar cane and cocoa tour which is part of the overall tour. Surprises along the way which will put a smile on the face of anyone who likes Coffee, Chocolate and sugar! You must go... More

What a wonderful tour! Its certainly a lot to see coffee, chocolate and sugar all at once, but the tour grounds are gorgeous and the tour guide was amazing. Its certainly a very touristy thing to do, even how its all set up as its not really a true farm anymore, but learning how everything is made and actually experiencing... More

Adviced by our hotel owner (Rainbow Valley Lodge) we did a tour at El Trapiche, and I highly recommend it to anyone else! You get to learn all insides on making coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane via a very educational tour. You also get to taste some products at various stages. As a bonus, our guide was quite a funnyman!

Our guide was so helpful and informative. We loved seeing coffee, chocolate and sugarcane growing/processing. It even kept our 3 kids engaged! :) This tour was about 2 hours long and worth the time. It was such a unique and interesting activity to do while in Monteverde!

As a coffee lover, I was very excited to take the El Trapiche tour. Since we had a rental car, we elected to drive to the tour location and note like everything else outside of Santa Elena, you will need to drive down a bumpy, dirt road to get there! Two tour vans of people arrived and we were split... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit which came at the end of a week long group tour of Costa Rica. Our charismatic guide, Jorge made the talks and demonstrations fun and memorable. We saw the coffee beans growing on the hillside, then drying, roasting and being sorted into different grades in the sheds. We also learnt about caffeine. We saw sugar... More
