We choose the waterfall tour and enjoyed it a lot ! Everything was ready when we arrived, and Sabine was very welcoming. Her ranch is isolated and quiet, it is a peaceful place. We took the ride with Alvaro, the guide, who was very nice. Despite we don't speak spanish, we managed to communicate with him. He showed us a... More

We had a 3 hour trail ride booked on a short notice (one day ahead) during low season. On our arrival, everything was prepared already: Sabine gave us a short but nonetheless thorough introduction to the "smiling horses" guidelines. For both, my riding experienced girlfriend and my rookie self, it seemed to really be about the creatures and nature in... More

I've been traveling for two moths in Costa Rica and I am a big horse lover. I own a horse myself and wanted to get Costa Rican riding experiences, so I decided to go horseback riding every place I went to. I have to say that Sabine's smiling horse ranks first in my top 3 list. The horses are in... More

We rode for two hours with our guide and saw a lot of the Costa Rican countryside. We spoke minimal Spanish and he spoke minimal English, but it went fine - it was fun trying to speak with him. And he was so nice! My horse (Princessa) was too strong for me, so he quickly swapped horses with me and... More

We took the waterfall tour with Juan Carlos. It was an enjoyable ride with some amazing views. We had fun with Juan Carlos as we communicated with our limited Spanish and his limited English. He was very kind in taking our pictures at several different stops along the way. I would definitely recommend Sabine's Smiling Horses if you are looking... More

I had met Sabine several years ago when I studied abroad in Monteverde and regrettably didn't find the time to visit her farm. This time around (5 years later), I reserved a 3 hour tour through the mountains with my girlfriend, and another couple was also with the group. Our guide spoke little English but was incredibly kind and the... More

We had a great experience doing our two hour long ride with our excellent guide Juan Carlos. We did some very nice trails and went to a waterfall and saw a variety of monkeys. Juan Carlos was great and we learned a lot from him (all in Spanish and a bit in English). He was very jovial and the horses... More

Form all of us at Smiling Horses we would like to thank you for your visit, especially we like our guests to post pictures as you do. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your ride. We are, however sorry to hear that you perceived us as "uninterested". Our guide Alonso (not Juan Carlos) still works with us. His... More

We did a 2 hour ride followed by a canyoning tour where we rappelled down several waterfalls. We went with 4 adults and 5 teenagers. Everyone loved both the horses and the ride, as well as the canyoning tour. It was an awesome physical challenge that everyone was excited to achieve. The guides for both things were friendly and knowledgeable.... More

We took the waterfall tour and had a great time. Our guide shared all kinds of information about the waterfall and plants along the way. He was very knowledgeable about the area. We even saw a few sloths. The horses are well cared for, and Sabine and the guide were very nice and friendly. I let them know ahead of... More

We must admit seeing sloths in several different places in your tour is very lucky. We do not always get that. Our riding guests are allowed to go as slow as they want, if it makes them feel more comfortable. In general our guests do like walking to our place from town. Going back it is 1 km uphill from... I'm an experienced but infrequent rider, and I rode on two consecutive days for 3 1/2 hours each from Sabine's Smiling Horses ranch, and greatly enjoyed both rides. On the first day I rode with Alonzo (Sabine's Costa Rican guide) and Julia (intern) along Pacific mountain side and to a waterfall. Alonzo spotted a two-toed sloth that we could take... More
