I don't think a guide is really necessary...except, if you find a really great one like "Alvin" who will ask you about yourself and will easily talk about his life. It gives one a chance to get a personal feel for the people of Costa Rica.

Juan was our guide on his boat. We had a total of 8 people in our group. He was so sweet, funny, and incredibly knowledgable! He spoke impeccable English and is very passionate about his country and all the beautiful natural elements. He met us at a hotel in Quepos as he did offer to pick us up, but we...

If you are looking for a great tour company, Manuel Antonio Expeditions, is one I would recommend. They are very professional and extremely knowledgeable of the environment and wildlife. Even though seeing wildlife is sometimes random, Juan did an awesome job at spotting the animals/insects that were "out and about". We even enjoyed a home cooked meal, which was a...

Manuel Antonio Park Guided Tour:
We are so glad we decided to hire a guide for the Manuel Antonio park! We would have missed a lot of animals if we were alone. Our guide was Juan and he was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the region. He brought a telescope with him that allowed us to see...

Edgar, our tour guide, was patient and knowledgeable. He has a great sense of humour and worked very hard to be sure we saw as many interesting plants and animals he could find. I would highly recommend this tour company!
We just finished this tour with Edgar, and it was amazing. There are a lot of guides in the park. However, it was obvious that Edgar was not only the most knowledgeable, but he is also personable and humorous. If you are in Manuel Antonio, you should definitely see the park, and Manuel Antonio Expeditions is definitely the tour group...

We read on many travel sites that getting a guide for the park was the key to seeing most of the wildlife. I can testify that's absolutely true. Juan was our guide and he pointed out things we had no idea were there. I have no clue how he saw most of the things he pointed out. I guess that's...

He was very knowledgeable about the plants and animals in the park. We had a wonderful tour and some time at a beautiful beach with some snacks. He even took pictures...

Edgar was our guide - had a great sense of humor, and pointed out highlights of the park (animals) along the way. While it was 'private', there were people everywhere, all taking the same public path thru the park.
