My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon in Cahuita, and although neither of us are sloth fanatics, the sanctuary was definitely one of the places we wanted to visit. We did the normal tour for $25 each. I'll separate the good from the bad: Good: - Our guide for the sloth portion of the tour was Marco, and... More

On our way from Limon to Cahuita, we passed by the sloth sanctuaty and decide to take the tour. The friendly tour guide fitted us in with a group that was apparently already half way through their tour. We were let into a room where five sloths were kept and got info about the different kinds of sloths. Next we... More

As an avid animal lover, I was very excited to come here and have an amazing experience-just look at the pictures on their website-what's not to love? I must say, however,I do believe the majority of the staff who work here are genuine in their love for sloths and the overall picture of what they are trying to achieve. First, we... More

Super romantic canoe ride! Saw bats, a really awesome iguanas, little baby crocodile, sloths, turtles, and our favorite howler monkeys giving us a crazy show! Meeting the rescue sloths and their stories were fantastic. We found it neat that it's now a place for researching more about sloths in the wild. The baby sloths were cute but it was better... More

This is a tour focused on tourists keen on seeing (baby) sloths up close. Although the organisation does release adult sloths back to the wild, the overall business principle is clearly to make a lot of money. They keep a lot of baby sloths (which cannot be released into the wild). This is a choice that does not benefit wild... More

We loved the hour long canoe ride on the Estrella River with its exotic birds and the sound of the howler monkeys. A bit disappointing was the sloth tour since the babies were all wrapped up in their blankets, so you really couldn't see them and the 4 rescued adult sloths were in their cages of course. Still, a great... More

We had a delightful time seeing the sloths, hearing the history of each sloth, visiting the sloth orphan nursery, watching them play on their special jungle gym. Their deep commitment to these animals is wonderful to see. The one hour canoe ride was very interesting. The boatman was well trained to point out flora and fauna, reptiles, birds, bats, crabs,... This was one of the most enjoyable tours we had in Costa Rica. Sanctuary is located on the edge of jungle, crossed with river and channels. First part of a tour was canoeing in a wild with guide, showing local animals. We've seen big monkey family, slipping bats and many more interesting animals. Second part is a walk around the sanctuary... More

This is the closest you will get to a sloth in the country! Sloths live very high up in the trees and are hard to spot. here, you get to stand so close to them! Our guide was amazing and I loved hearing the family's story of how they started the sanctuary and have been leaders in creating law to... More

I was a little skeptical because of some bad press on the Internet. However, it was a lovely place to stay, and visit. The staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds lovely. The monkeys and sloths we fascinating. I would definitely recommend staying here. The canoe ride was also a highlight.
