Tamarindo's beach is beautiful. The waves there are steady and perfect for all of the surfers. People walk around and sell coconuts to drink, little trinkets, bird whistles and jewelry- they are no bother at all. The sunsets are amazing. But for me, the town is too developed and bustling. I prefer the more laid back feel of Playa Brasilito or... More

Tamarindo beach was very enjoyable. Watch for where you see other people swimming to avoid the rocks. It is also very interesting to see when the tide is out. You can find some shade the further down the beach you go. Plan to cross the river and go to Playa Grande while you are there. You will need $2.00 each... More

This beach town does not represent the beauty of Costa Rica. It's over crowded, dirty and has a ton of traffic. The beach itself is beautiful, our experience staying at the Pacific Park condos was amazing and there are some great restaurants. But there are many other destinations in Costa Rica that I would choose over Tamarindo.

Yes it's touristy and huge. I don't really mind, I actually enjoy that factor. It was hot and they had umbrellas and beach chairs to rent (Can't say that about all the beaches around the area!). Always nice to enjoy some shade when the sun gets overwhelming. Lots of places to eat and do some shopping. Driving there is easy,... More

This beach is fun due to all the restaurant and adjacent bars, however in terms of beach by itself to me is not the nicest one. We visited 6 beaches while in Costa Rica, and for us Playa Flamingo has our vote as #1. I will review that beach in another review.

A nice beach with plenty to keep the tourists happy. Numerous hotels, restaurants, shops, night life, and plenty of surf shops! Wide sandy beach, although there are quite a few rocks visible when the tide pulls out. This made for some sketchy surfing at low tide in certain areas of the beach. Water and sand are clean, and you can... More

It is a very beautiful beach that has many vendors walking around with goods for sale. There are lots of people. It is nice that the beach is in the city since it does loan it's self to a slew of activities. We were in Tamarindo for only part of the day so we only saw the happenings of the... More

If you're looking for the charming quiet Costa Rican beach town you've read about, Tamarindo is not it. Like a lot of Guanacaste, it's " boomed " and has all the pros and cons of any popular beach town anywhere. It's busy and loud, with tons of traffic. But, the beaches are beautiful and people are very friendly so we... More

Tamarindo got 3-stars in my book simply because I don't like touristy spots. But, if you like to shop and visit swanky hotels, I think this may be your location. The beach was very crowded - we were there on a Saturday. Shops were bustling with tourists and activities. We were there to scout out a catamaran outfit (Seabird) whose... More
