First surfing steps

Fairly large beach where you can do some first surfing steps. Although santa teresa is the better surfing spot, we also enjoyed tamarindo

Lovely sandy beaches - could not imagine going during peak season - it was busy as it was, but the walks were nice.

Nice beach, but Tamarindo's nickname is Tama-gringo. There are some great restaurants but this is definitely not the "Real Costa Rica". I would have loved this beach town 20 years ago... At least that's what I've been told. The ticos we met are still very nice considering this place is overrun by expats from all over the world. And as... More

I have been traveling solo through Costa Rica and my first stop was Tamarindo. Really nice sunset on the beach. One of the best.

Tamarindo is one of the most happening towns in Costa Rica! There are plenty of restaurants, shopping, bars and even a disco. Many hotels and condos adorn the beach, and it's just a blast to stay there. There are many excursions (if you want to leave the beach), and at the south end of the beach there are shade trees... Tamarindo is a pretty nice beach. The sand isn't a beautiful white or golden colour, but it feels lovely and soft beneath your feet. The waves are good for beginner surfers, though there are larger ones near the estuary for the more advanced. When the surf is low, swimming is possible, but it's hard to do with the waves rolling... We were in Costa Rica earlier this month and the beach at Tamarindo is awesome! We'd sit outside at the beach club and walk on the beach to collect shells and the view was incredible. Looking out over the boats, watching the surfers, and feeling the beauty of the water was over-the-top for a vacation! Will do this again!

Taramindo was a little too Americanized for us but we still enjoyed our stay very much. We tried to stick more to local life while we were there and did not explore the town very much. A few things we did enjoy was Matty's Deli Cafe for great lunch sandwiches, The Dragonfly bar and grill was an Asian fusion restaurant... More

This is a very large and long beach. Staffs available for beach chairs and umbrellas. Vendors available for surfboards and lessons. Beach area has a small parking lot and restaurants and bars within walking distance.Great place to learn to surf and body surf.
