Playa Tamarindo is a beautiful and interesting beach. The sun sets early (usually somewhere around 5:30pm ~ 6:00pm). Even during the rainy season you have a good opportunity of viewing one of the intriguing sunsets. I don't really experience any negative happenings, however, some travelers may not enjoy the unleashed dogs (mostly well-behaved) and the pottery, cigar and whistle vendors.... More

We really enjoyed our afternoon and evening at the beach. While it is busy, it's a great place to surf, play football, lounge and to enjoy that gorgeous sunset! The beach was very long and shallow so it's perfect for strolling along and taking in the sights. There are a lot of semi-wild dogs roaming free that kind of breaks... More

The beach is long and wide (in the evening narrower due to tides) so it's not crowded. It is a perfect place to learn surfing also - sea is shallow and waves small

Beautiful beach but not for family or kids. It's a surfer town, drugs and prostitution. Singles kinda place.

This beach had the most beautiful sunsets of any of the places we have traveled. Stunning fiery reds and golds left us breathless. We will return - - a true beauty.

Miles of long fine sand beach with occasional rocky outcroppings make for spectacular over the water sunsets and great mellow peaks. The right tide brings a long fast barrel to the river mouth. Watch for the green flash around the point at Playa Langosta. Yes its real and the only two times I've seen were there!

It was full of surf shops and surfers. The beach is lovely, but I was happy to be staying at the other end of the beach where is was quiet.

Tamarindo beach is a great swimming beach and a nice place to learn how to surf. Sure the water isn’t crystal clear like the Caribbean beaches, but it has nice waves and a deep, clean beach. The locals do hound you trying to sell their stuff and a simple “No, Gratias” gets rid of them. It is certainly was no... More

What an awesome surf town. It gave me (good) flashbacks of the 60's and the 70's. Lots of cool places to stay, shop, eat and drink. Great party scene.

This beach is just okay. The water is not blue and is murky along with the sand. I wouldn't go to Costa Rica for the beaches. If you are looking for amazing beaches go to Florida. This beach is filled with bums trying to sell you everything including marjuana. The people are semi friendly but the food and drinks are... More
