My family of four had never been on horses prior to this tour. Kay and Esteban were very patient and great teachers. Our horses were calm and the tour was great. The chicken lunch was so (finger lickin') good! Kay also offered information about local eateries and beaches. Can't say enough about how much fun we had.

We are a family of four with just a casual level of experience in horseback riding. Kay and Esteban were tremendous throughout our whole visit - starting from introducing us to our horses and explaining the options for our tour. We rode through a local ranch area and covered ground we never would have seen and experienced otherwise. Kay is... More

Its everything we expected after reading several reviews before we booked. The Ranch is very well kept - the horses were all tacked up and waiting for us upon arrival - and we were on our way to a wonderful sunset ride with minimum of fuss! Most importent to us was the fact that the horses were in very good... More

My trip to Casagua farms was phenomenal. Kay and Esteban were great hosts and I truly admired their care for the animals on the farm. The horses were all great horses and a total joy to ride. I myself am an experienced rider but the horses at Casagua are truly for any level of rider and are very well trained.... More

I agree with other reviewers regarding the quality of horses and experience. Esteban was an engaging guide on the three-hour Tempate Trail, commencing at 7.30am. I learnt so much about the local wildlife and environment - including the tensions between the traditional ranchero culture and tourism development. I work with and ride horses regularly, so am pretty confident and experienced,... More

We offer high quality Abetta western saddles for most of our trail rides because they are safer and better on our horses and riders in this climate. But we do offer english and mc clellen saddles on request and riding helmets are always available. When asking for more forward horses and lively canters on private rides there is always more... Being a horse owner myself I was looking to go for a ride on horses that were well cared for and healthy (unlike many of the "starving" and "worked to death to make a dollar" horses you usually see with other tours). I researched Casagua Horses prior to my visit and was very impressed with what I saw. Kay and... More

We appreciate it when horse owners appreciate our horses and tours. Many visitors never get to see the real flavor of Guanacaste and it's horse culture. We feel our horses are special, thanks for the great input. Look forward to having riding with us again one day. More

I booked a 2-3 hour group horseback ride online before we arrived in Costa Rica as there were so many great write ups on Kay and Esteban's ranch. (Hi Kay ... Denise here!) It was easy to arrange as Kay answers you back right away with answers to all your questions! We were inexperienced riders but we were made to... More

Thanks for the great photos. Having been a teacher for so many years is obvious, they say once a teacher, always a teacher... I now really enjoy teaching "horse". This is the basis of Natural Horsemanship and we know makes riders more confident too. Look forward to riding with you again on one of our other tours...or perhaps you want... More

Kay and Esteban set the bar incredibly high. Good luck finding anywhere else on par. This is the epitome of what a ranch could, and should be. Their knowledge, love and care for their animals, their kindness, and the peace and well-being of their home... Don't miss out. We spent only four hours there, wish we had spent four days...... More

We are glad you are happy- we are happy you found us too. We know it is easier to pick up tourist horses and sometimes cheaper, but we appreciate your recognition that our horses are special and worth the effort. Do come back and stay with us, love to have you. More

We had the pleasure of going horseback riding at Casagua Ranch (Costa Rica) with Kay in February 2014. My wife and I went with a couple friends of ours and had a wonderful time. We are pretty inexperienced on horses. My wife and I had only been on horses 2 or 3 other occassions prior. So we were a bit... More

Whether you ride with us or with any horseback riding provider, it is important to ask the proper way to communicate with your horse, because horses in different parts of the world may have different training and different signals. It is easier for we humans to adapt to the horses rather than trying to use siganls that may confuse them.... More

My 10 year old daughter and I stayed at The Painted Pony Ranch for 5 days and 4 nights. Kay put together a spectacular itinerary for us, custom to what we wanted to do and see. I felt like we were their special guests as they went out of her way to see that we were enjoying ourselves and that... More
