This is the best beach ever....beautiful sand, no vendors. one restaurant-lola's- which allowed us to use their chairs to sit and watch the waves in the shade. They also had great food and drink. This was peaceful and just perfect.

Lola's was great and the surfers were fun to watch; it is a bit of challenge to get there (by car) but worth it.

Amazing! Youll love it. It is a hidden (at least I thought) beach, but man! When you find it- you wont help but smile!

While we stayed in Tamarindo, we knew in advance that we wanted to explore this, and other beaches to the north and south of us. This was our favorite - surf boards and boogie boards are rented from a small, canopy tent, so no touristy vibe here - it's all local, and all chill. Long beach for walking if you're... More

Avellanes is an incredible beach. It is HUGE, beautiful, not too crowded and the waves are fantastic. There is a small parking lot with a very friendly attendant (pay 1000 colones when you leave) who will pull fresh water up from a well so you can rinse off/wash your feet before you leave. Lola's restaurant has delicious food and you... More

This is a great beach to go to to get away from the people. Nice sand to walk a long distance. This beach is very welcoming but not touristy.

Beautiful beach about 20 minutes from downtown Tamarindo. The waves were great for body surfing. There is a great restaurant called Lola's that has food and drinks and bathrooms! If you are interested in surfing there is a surf store about 1Km before you get to the beach and one guy at the beach offering lessons. Perfect day to grab... More

I'm from Costa Rica and I go to Guanacaste a few times a year. This is by far my favorite beach in the area, do not miss it.

Very long white sand beach with a low slope and great waves. Water was very warm and fun for boogie boarding.

Playa Avellanes is a beautiful beach at the end of a dusty dirt round just south of Tamarindo. The water is a beautiful azul blue color with tide pools and an idyllic sandy beach. It is frequented by locals and tourists and even though we visited during the green season it was pretty busy. Probably given it's location to Tamarindo.... More
