Before going to the zoo, we read all the reviews and, in our opinion, the best and most helpful was an April 2008 review titled “African Safari in Costa Rica” by CRhockey. Read it, we share the same point of view. On our last afternoon in CR my wife and I took our youngest daughter to Africa Mia. As our... More

My husband and I took in the zoo, along with our bag of carrots to feed the animals. We enjoyed our tour very much, the guide was terrific!

Not a lot of animals, but you can buy a decent sized bag of carrots for $1USD (500colones) to feed the animals. Our 3 year old daughter enjoyed it. The giraffe's come right to you, and actually got a lick into my wife's..... ahhh chest hahaha.... was good for a laugh. Staff was great! We were the only english speaking... More

This was the most disappointing part of our visit to Costa Rica. We had 4 adults and 5 children in our group and found it very difficult to secure any discounts (we paid around $450, and they didn't want us to use credit cards if we were going to get a 4-year old free). National parks were free for children... More

We live in Lake Arenal and wanted to do a day trip for our little ones birthday. We have been to La Garita's Ave Zoo and was very pleased with the whole experience, lots of animals for the kids to look at and interact. But no so impressed with Mia Safari, first off its a dusty and a hot experience... More

If it weren't for the steep price tag ($65 for adults, $55 for kids for the safari tour), I would have given this a 5 star rating. Our guide was very sweet, patient and well informed. The safari takes you right in with most of the animals (nasty tempered ostriches and camels, not) and it's pretty hard to put a... More

The animals are well kept, the spaces are lush but the tour takes you on a walk on the outside of the fence where you look at the animals and maybe some will come towards you to eat some carrots. It's cool if you have kids cause they would enjoy seeing the animals but other than that I would skip... More

We went here on our second day in CS and took the Safari tour which was pricy but makes the journey really special. It takes you right in among the animals whereas the walking tour does not. To me the cost of $65 per person was justified just to have the fun of feeding the giraffes who put their heads... More

We just returned from Costa Rica yesterday and wanted to be sure we didn't forget to recommend this excellent facility. The walls surrounding the "savanna" are somewhat like Jurassic Park, but the experience is very real, the guides knowledgeable and the vision of the park is admirable. How fortunate the animals are to be redeemed from a big city zoo... More

We visited Africa Mia in April 2008. We had a fantastic guide who was not only knowledgeable but very personable and passionate about the project and the animals. The animals were fascinating and the guide made sure we got to take pictures from any angles we wanted. I have pictures of the fascination and wonder on my children's faces when... More
