My girlfriend and I did this tour as part of a 4 in 1 tour booked through www.arenal.net I think most people visit La Fortuna to see the volcano, so going on this tour is a no brainer. We had a guide and a group of 8 tourists and this tour took a couple of hours. We were taken to... more

you can not come to this area and not do a volcano hike. It is truly awesome. Not only did we hear the volcano, but we also saw wildlife in the forests. One such amazing bird we saw was the Montezuma Oropendolas. They were out in number. The sunset on the way back was awesome. more

To see the volcano, we went on the Volcano Hike with Sunset Tours. This is a great way to see the flora & fauna of the rainforest. Our tour started off at an observation point of the volcano, followed by a hike of approx 1.5h. We had a really good tour guide, who was very friendly, knowledgeable, and spoke pretty... more

We got a ride here with company "Cab Serrano", he spoke great English, had a scope so we saw the rocks fallling off the volcano. Knew other locals so we saw a yellow eyed viper here. He took us to the lookout and waited while we walked the trail to the 1992 lava flow. Very neat experience, also saw howler... more

The Arenal National park should be first on your to-do list in this region! I was unsure about going as I had not read much on the park, but was so glad we did. We arrived at about 2 in the afternoon, and the park shuts at 4.00 to general tourists (after this time you have to be on a... more

We LOVED our visit to the Parque Nacional Volcan Arenal! My husband and I drove to the park entrance from our hotel, the Arenal Observatory Lodge, and after paying the entrance fee of I think $6 per person (best $6 spent on the entire trip in my opinion) first went to the lookout point. By this time the previously foggy... more

Honestly, if you're in Arenal, you'll see the volcano. It's impossible to miss. Seeing the lava is another story... From some of the hotels you may automatically see it at night but, as the lava recently changed course, this will not be an option for many travelers. I did the Volcano Hike through Sunset Tours and I would recommend the... more

I developed a severe itchy armpit area fungus that I attribute from the hotsprings and naturally dried towels, it was a nasty uncontrollable itch that I didin't understand, until my doctor told me there was a fungus growing on my skin, probably from the unchlorinated 'natural' pools at Baldy hot springs or the air dried towels. Anyhow, it has plagued... more

I only spent one night in Arenal, and I wish I could have been there longer. At night we went to a hot springs that was owned by a resort. It was amazing. the surrounding town is also nice, but nothing special. The volcano is also nice, but the top is often blocked by clouds, so if you only have... more
